Director Homeport Operations – SDCA
SUPERVISES:
Assistant Dock Master, Dock crew and support staff
Authorities / Responsibilities
Responsible for oversight of day-to-day floating dry dock operations; inclusive of docking of vessels under construction, maintenance or repair. Maintains Facility and Mobile equipment repair routine, maintenance and recommends requirements to meet environmental and safety requirements. Operates assigned areas within budget forecasts. Responsible for safety performance and conforming to company policies. Performs routine inspection of the facilities, works with crew to manage general repair and maintenance of the docks, piers & facility. Responsible to maintain dock certification and recertification when required; Responsible to oversee the safe docking and undocking operations of all vessels Responsible for docking and undocking calculations and block plan and building for safe operations Manages dock crew for the dock build, the haul in and out of vessels and the maintenance and repair of the dock. Manages assigned Dry Dock & facilities personnel. Responsible to maintain safety and cleanliness standards and to identify issues requiring maintenance, repair, or replacement. Monitor weather at all times and take appropriate action to ensure safety of personnel, dock, and vessels on dock. Establishes and provides training and qualifies personnel in safe equipment operations of Dry Dock & components, Mobile equipment and lifting equipment. Establishes plans and manages planned maintenance for all Austal San Diego facility assets within approved system/database. Responsible to maintain ASD equipment within maintenance periodicity.
Qualifications / Knowledge / Experience
Successful completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Naval Architecture or related field; or 10 plus years of direct experience as a Dock Master Certified Dock Master –US Navy approved Certification or Certification from commercial authority, preferred. Excellent written and oral communication skills; Understanding of scheduling and an ability to adhere to strict deadlines Experienced in interacting with Production, Customer Representatives, and Equipment Manufacturers; Computer literate and familiar with standard Microsoft Office products; Thorough knowledge of vessel structural design; Thorough knowledge of vessel trim & stability calculations; Thorough knowledge of ship and propulsion systems; Knowledgeable in Maritime Regulatory Authorities (i.e. ABS, DNV, GL, NAVSEA, MIL, USCG, IMO, etc.) US Citizenship required.
Tools
Computer – MS Office, Maximo or similar maintenance software.
Direction Exercised
Full discretionary authority to assign work to direct staff. Works independently to deliver against aggressive deadlines. Escalates complex issues to Director of Austal San Diego as appropriate.
Liaises With
Engineers, Production Personnel, Customer Representatives, Regulatory Bodies, and Equipment Suppliers
Compensation
$96,000 - $123,000
