The mission of Community Soil Foundation (CSF) is to cultivate the wellness of Sonoma

County communities by offering high quality land-based education, creating access to organic produce, and regenerating habitat and natural resources. Following Next Generation Science Standards, CSF teaches concepts of environmental stewardship, biology, and regenerative agriculture to youth and adults through gardening, restoration projects, community events, and volunteer-driven fieldwork at our outdoor classroom, the Larkfield Community Garden & Learning Center.

The culmination of our work with students and volunteers is the sustainably grown, nutritious produce offered to community members at no cost. Since ground-breaking in 2015, an estimated 2,500 students have participated in our education programs, over 36,000 pounds of food has been grown for the community, and upwards of 3,000 native plants have been planted. Our work in restoration and sustainable agriculture benefits all life in our ecosystem, promoting biodiversity and ecological resilience.

The Community Development Manager serves as a dynamic connector between our organization, funders, the community, volunteers, staff, and board. This individual will actively hold space for funder engagement, organize fundraisers and donor interactions, and oversee program coordination, including staff and board meeting facilitation. They will work closely with founders, garden/program managers, garden educators, the grant writer, advisory board members, volunteers, and local partners.

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

1. Fundraising & Funder Engagement (Outreach & Cultivation)

Proactively hold dedicated meetings and meet with potential and current funders to build relationships and strategic partnerships. Organize and facilitate fundraising events (such as annual benefit events, donor gatherings, campaigns), including coordinating logistics, donor invites, sponsors, and promotion-aligned with your outreach goals. Maintain and steward a donor and funder records, ensure timely acknowledgments, and provide performance metrics. Collaborate with leadership (Founders/Executive Director) on fundraising strategies and donor cultivation.

2. Program Coordination & Internal Meetings

Develop project timelines, coordinate seasonal programming needs, logistics (tools, materials, procurement), and volunteer staffing. Facilitate agendas for staff and board meetings, preparing materials, capturing minutes, tracking action items, and following up. Maintain records of program participation, volunteer hours, budgets, and outcomes; report regularly to founders and board.

3. Outreach & Community Engagement

Serve as primary liaison to community members, local organizations, partners, and stakeholders to increase awareness, support, and participation. Conduct outreach & public relations activities-social media, newsletters, flyers, presentations, community events. Represent the organization at local events and community tables, and recruit volunteers for events, outreach campaigns, and garden/program activities.

4. Volunteer & Partner Coordination

Recruit, train, coordinate, and manage volunteers for events, work days, program support, and fundraising. Foster meaningful relationships with local partners, businesses, schools, and agencies to advance mission-aligned fundraising, outreach, and project goals.

Qualifications & Skills

Bachelor's degree (preferred) in Community Development, Environmental Studies, Nonprofit Management, or equivalent experience. 2+ years experience in fundraising, donor relations, grant writing, outreach, and program coordination (e.g. in community gardens, nonprofits). Exceptional written and verbal communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills. Strong organizational and project management capabilities-able to multi-task, prioritize, and work independently. Comfortable facilitating meetings and collaborating across staff, board, and volunteers. Availability for occasional evenings/weekends for events, donor meetings, or community gatherings.

Preferred

Familiarity with environmental sustainability, community garden practices, food justice, or permaculture models. Previous experience facilitating board governance or committee structures. Comfort working with diverse populations and fostering inclusive engagement. Bi lingual

Work Arrangements & Core Values

Expected to be onsite at least three weekdays (flexible schedule). This role requires someone who is forward-thinking and who thrives working independently as well as on a team. Part time ( 24 hrs/week average) or full-time depending on scope. Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $23.00 - $25.00 per hour
