Acumen IT is seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented, and strategic Controller to lead our core financial operations. This hands-on role is responsible for ensuring financial accuracy, compliance, and efficiency by managing all accounting functions and providing actionable insights to the leadership team. The ideal candidate will manage a dedicated accounting clerk, serve as a key liaison for our external tax firm, and leverage their expertise in the Managed Services Provider (MSP) business model to drive financial performance.
Responsibilities
Financial Management & Operations
* Lead the month-end and year-end close processes, preparing timely and accurate financial statements in accordance with GAAP. * Manage day-to-day accounting functions, including the general ledger, journal entries, and bank/credit card reconciliations. * Oversee accounts payable and receivable processes, ensuring timely and accurate transactions and supervising invoice operations. * Manage a dedicated accounting clerk, delegating tasks and reviewing their work for accuracy. * Oversee and perform reconciliations for specific accounts, including revenue, cost of services (COS), undeposited funds, and other key balance sheet accounts.
Budgeting, Forecasting & Analysis
* Provide strategic financial analysis and reporting, including variance analysis against budget and historical performance. * Develop and present custom "Gauge Reports" and other key performance indicators (KPIs) specific to the MSP business model. * Lead the annual budgeting and forecasting processes. * Analyze technician utilization, labor hours, and project profitability to provide insights on operational efficiency.
Compliance & Controls
* Establish and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure financial data integrity. * Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal reporting requirements, including sales tax filings. * Act as the primary liaison for our external tax firm, preparing all necessary documentation for annual tax filings. * Manage and maintain fixed asset schedules, depreciation tracking, and support external audits as needed.
Collaboration & Systems
* Act as the in-house expert on our financial systems, managing the seamless integration and data flow between QuickBooks Online (QBO) and our Business Management Software. * Troubleshoot and resolve any sync issues between systems to maintain data integrity. * Partner with internal teams to ensure smooth financial workflows and provide financial guidance on new initiatives. * Maintain accounting systems and recommend process improvements.
Qualifications
* Preferred: CPA or bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance. * Minimum 3-5 years of experience in a financial controller or senior accounting role. * Strong understanding of accounting principles (GAAP). * Proven experience with AR/AP processes and invoicing. * Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. * Proficient in accounting software (QuickBooks). * Strong attention to detail and accuracy. * Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. * Ability to work independently and as part of a team. * Excellent time management skills and possesses the ability to prioritize for maximum productivity. * Articulate; strong command of the English language and able to communicate powerfully through the spoken and written word. * The aptitude to acquire a basic level of knowledge with technologies and product/service solutions sold by Acumen IT. * Must have reliable internet and home office setup for working from home.

Pay: $80,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
