POSITION SUMMARY:
Assistant Director for Student Organizations provides primary oversight of 170+ registered student organizations (RSOs); serves as the primary advisor to the Student Organization Budget and Appropriations Committee (SOBAC); oversees student organization financial processes; and manages the University's student organization management software. The Assistant Director is also the main point person for RSO event registration, policy compliance advising, and risk mitigation.
JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Student Organization Advising, Event Management, and Programming Support (55%)
Serves as the primary point of contact for 170+ RSOs, providing guidance on operations, including policy compliance, annual re-registration, provisional group development, and reactivation processes in collaboration with university partners and systems. Manages the student organization event registration process, including advising on policy compliance, space reservations, and risk management in collaboration with Events, Facilities, and URPD. Provides development and implementation support for the student organization management software, including training and technical support for student leaders and the campus community. Contributes to the planning, execution, and assessment of student organization leadership training and development efforts, including committee retreats, onboarding, and workshops. Collaborates with partners in Fraternity and Sorority Life, University Recreation, and the Chaplaincy, as appropriate, to maintain a holistic approach to student organization engagement and support. Work collaboratively with department colleagues and other partners to deliver hazing prevention training and alcohol education efforts for RSOs and affiliated student leaders. Supports major divisional programs such as SpiderFest and Winter SpiderFest. Supports assessment and benchmarking related to student organizations and program impact.
Budget Management and Fiscal Oversight (35%)
Serves as the University administrator and primary advisor to the Student Organization Budget and Appropriations Committee (SOBAC), including advising the SOBAC Co-Chairs, coordinating weekly meetings, and leading the $220,000 allocation process for student organizations. Oversees the financial processes and reconciliations for 170+ RSOs, including purchasing card use, budget tracking, and spending compliance. Manages, trains, and evaluates a student finance team of 5-6 Finance Assistants and one Finance Manager. Serves as a liaison to the Accounting Office, Controller's Office, and the Office of Planning and Budget to ensure accurate and timely transactions and reporting.
Office & University Engagement (10%)
Serves as a WELL 100: Introduction to Collegiate Life instructor for one section per semester, as needed. Participates on relevant university and divisional committees as assigned. Supports divisional projects and programs, including benchmarking, assessment, and other duties as assigned by the Associate Director for Student Engagement and Director of Student Involvement.

- Students: Advising RSOs and student leaders, including SOBAC co-chairs.
- Campus Partners: Events, URPD, Facilities, Accounting, Chaplaincy, and University Recreation for programming support and budget management.
- External Partners: Vendors and affiliated national organizations of RSOs.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
- Directly supervises 5-6 Finance Assistants and one Student Finance Manager.
- Responsible for hiring, training, and performance evaluations of student employees within the CSI Finance Team.
WORKING CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL EFFORT:
- Occasional evening and weekend work required.
- Must be eligible and able to be certified to drive University vehicles.
- No special physical effort required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong student-centered approach and experience supporting underrepresented student populations.
- Knowledge of student organization advising, event planning, and financial processes.
- Demonstrated experience using student organization management software platforms.
- High attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Education & Experience:
- Education: Bachelor's degree required; master's degree in student affairs, higher education, or a related field preferred
- Experience: 1-3 years of experience working with student organizations, budget management, and/or student leaders is required. Experience with event or programming planning and implementation is preferred.
Salary Pay Grade: 6 ($47,000 to $62,000)
Scheduled Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 5 pm. 38.75 hours per week. Some weekends and evenings
