What you'll do at OhioMHAS: Under general direction of the Assistant Director of Nursing and Clinical Nurse Managers, this Psychiatric Nurse Supervisor provides management of the Nursing Department. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Oversees & coordinates nursing services for patients on assigned shift per patient populations served within facility (e.g., adult acute, geriatric, forensic, MI/MR) based upon established nursing standards of care Respects patient's rights & adheres to ethical standards Supervises & directs the implementation of the nursing process Serves as liaison with other disciplines (e.g., medicine, psychology, psychiatry, adjunctive therapy, social work) Provides oversight & direction during psychiatric & medical emergencies ensuring proficient & timely clinical response; ensures implementation of timely staff debriefings Monitors assigned staff nurses' record completion (e.g., admission assessments, seclusion/restraint, incident reports) Continually monitors the quality of nursing care through the nursing department's QA/PI process Initiates & carries out all steps necessary to support the hospital mission, philosophy & values Maintains knowledge of COBH procedures for responding to workplace incidents & working knowledge of COBH safety & prevention programs, including infection control Performs additional clinical-related duties to ensure efficient & appropriate access for services & provision of care: Receives admission requests from referral sources & collaborates with physicians to determine clinical appropriateness based on hospital admission criteria Manages admission processes including completing/ensuring completion of Nursing Assessment Rounds on units during shift to assess needs of staff & patients Evaluates patient medical/psychiatric needs & ensures provision of proper levels of care (e.g., medication, use of restraints or seclusion) Confers with physician &/or psychiatrist regarding patient care/treatment Utilizes computer to enter &/or retrieve patient clinical information; assures completion of unit shift reports Serves as contact for families, external agencies & staff Coordinates off-ground appointments (e.g., shopping, transportation to hospitals) Assures compliance with standards of accrediting agencies (e.g., Joint Commission, Medicare); supports & implements National Patient Safety Goals Assists in the development of nursing &/or hospital policies/procedures Staff Supervision: Directly supervises Psych/DD Nurses & TPWs/PATs on shift; facilitates use of "Team Scheduling"; ensures scheduling of adequate staffing based upon patient acuity; manages use of overtime; approves/disapproves leave; completes performance reviews & competencies in a timely manner; recruits & supports retention of nursing staff; assists with staff orientation; counsels/coaches/mentors staff; participates in continuing education training of staff for required CEUs to educate & guide staff in holistic care & therapeutic treatment of patients (e.g., psychiatric, physical, cultural, social, spiritual, etc.); assures that staff remains current with hospital training requirements; completes first step in disciplinary process; develops & implements performance improvement plans; attends &/or participates in meetings, as assigned. This is an hourly position and is exempt from the bargaining units, with a pay range of #15 on the E1 Exempt Pay Range Schedule. Normal working hours are 5 8-hour shifts of 2:30PM - 11:00PM and require an every other weekend rotation. Schedule may be able to potentially flex to work 10:30am-11pm on the weekend rotation and earn an additional day off during the week within that pay period.
