About SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital: Saint Louis University School of Medicine is looking for an innovative Assistant Dean for Simulation to lead the enhancement and development of simulation programming within our medical school curriculum. This pivotal role reports to the Associate Dean of Simulation and Clinical Skills and is a crucial member of the medical school leadership team, particularly in Curricular Affairs.
The Assistant Dean will oversee a state-of-the-art 4,000 square foot Simulation Center and work closely with an education specialist and coordinator. This position will focus on curriculum development and planning, direct simulation instruction, and faculty development, requiring a strong background in simulation-based education, effective facilitation skills, collaboration with educational stakeholders, and project management.
This position is estimated at 0.3FTE, with the remaining 0.7FTE dedicated to practice as an emergency medicine physician in a level 1 trauma center.
Key Responsibilities:
Serve as an advisor to the Associate Dean and participate in curriculum meetings to enhance simulation use.
Identify growth opportunities for simulation in both Core Clinical and Pre-Residency phases of medical education.
Work with curriculum committees and stakeholders to revise and develop simulation curriculum aligned with programmatic goals.
Develop resources including facilitators, equipment, and staff to support simulation initiatives.
Contribute to the evaluation and grading for medical students.
Direct Instruction:
Facilitate existing simulation programming across different phases of the medical school program.
Create and implement training processes for instructional faculty.
Simulation Center Administration:
Collaborate on program development and strategic planning with the Associate Dean.
Enhance existing Simulation Center processes and contribute to strategic planning efforts such as budgeting and program evaluation.
Minimum Qualifications:
MD or DO degree is required.
Board certification or eligibility in an appropriate specialty is necessary.
Simulation fellowship training is strongly preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
In-depth understanding of simulation-based education principles and practices.
Knowledge of Simulation Center roles and responsibilities.
Strong organizational and communication skills.
Ability to collaborate and create a curriculum that meets educational objectives.
Capacity to engage with students, faculty, and institutional personnel effectively.
Maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
