Plans the setup and operation of all types of machine shop tools, considering types of material, tolerances, types of cutting tools, coolants, lubricants, and machine tool feeds and speeds. Heat treats and welds parts as required. Determines specifications for inspection of work, using precision measuring and gaging tools, performing required inspection before, during, and after machining. Performs hand operations involved in producing jigs, fixtures, tools, and dies. Uses hand tools of the trade. Fits and assembles jigs, fixtures, tools, and dies. Sets up, runs off, and tests dies to produce a product to specifications, tracing die difficulties to their source and correcting same. Verify tool is being built to the latest engineering revision level. May work with manufacturing coworkers on solving quality issues as needed. Interface directly with related departments as questions/ problems arise. Employ problem solving techniques within work team to eliminate bottlenecks and roadblocks to successful operation. Propose ideas for continuous improvement in quality and manufacturing process. Practice total commitment to customer satisfaction.Job Specifications or QualificationsEducation High School Diploma or equivalent Completion of formal apprenticeship program Graduation from a two year technical program or 3+ years' experience in metal stamping environment.Experience Ability to read mechanical drawings is a must.
