Senior Network Engineer
Job Description Having had experience working for the federal government, the Senior Network Engineer will play a vital role in a federal agency, designing, securing, and maintaining robust network infrastructures (e.g., Cisco Switched Networks) that support mission-critical operations. This position requires advanced expertise in network architecture, cybersecurity, and cloudtechnologies to ensure reliable communication across various platforms. The Senior Network Engineer acts as a technical lead, collaborating with internal teams and external providers to implement systems that meet federal compliance standards, support continuity plans, and optimize performance across complex IT environments. Required Skills
Must have Federal Government experience performing network and telecommunications system administration. Certifications in Cisco Networking, Firewall Security Applications, and Proxy Servers configuration and administration. Cisco switch diagnostics and management software expertise. Physical and virtual Information Technology (IT) infrastructure experience. Demonstrated expertise in detailed planning and/execution for the installation, testing, operation, troubleshooting, training, and maintenance of hardware and software systems, network cybersecurity, load-balancing, segmenting strategies, and alternate routing/COOP. Experienced in the design and implementation of IPv6, migrating from IPv4. Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Windows operating systems. Working knowledge of Windows server and network infrastructure services and topics such as encryption, firewalls, Active Directory, DNS, and security zones. Ability to produce and revise technical documentation, briefings, recommendations, and other written/oral work products. Excellent organizational and time-management skills; ability to manage several tasks/projects simultaneously. Advanced analytical and problem-solving abilities. Desired Skills

Under the technical direction of the client, serve as the operational SME for interacting with primary GSA Enterprise Infrastructure Solutions (EIS) Technical Telecommunications Service provider of Managed Trusted Internet Protocol Service (MTIPS), and Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) services to establish, track, and archive all security or operational design changes (Lumen Change Request/Tickets) to respective physical or virtual hardware and services to ensure performance, service continuity, security and compliance standards. Work independently and/or with the GSA EIS Technical Telecommunications Service provider, maintain an archive for Network/Systems configuration documentation for equipment in the agency enterprise. Serve as the agency's technical point of contact for third-party vendors who work on service/operations service interruptions and manage the restoration and recovery of services as they evaluate the impact and risk to agency management and escalate per the established procedural protocols. Perform timely and efficient detailed planning, and/or execution for the installation, testing, operation, troubleshooting, training, and maintenance of hardware and software systems, network cybersecurity, load-balancing, segmenting strategies, and alternate Routing/COOP to design the network towards the year 2030. Support the development and maintenance of the current and future state Network Enterprise Architecture and support the response to requested CISA/DHS data calls and metric reports. Responsible for the (timely and efficient technical planning and execution of all Network Infrastructure upgrades throughput the client enterprise while ensuring all data transit and interfaces are FISMA/FIPS compliant. Executes, designs, and/or direct installs, maintenance, and enhancements for (Network/Systems) equipment, services, and maintains technical documentation or procedures as needed. Serve as technical consultant and SME on the design and implementation of the IPv6 Migration/Compliance Project, migrating from IPv4. Maintain Firewall/Router HW/OS Configuration and Maintenance (Barracuda, Palo Alto, IronPort, Cisco, and/or Fortigate). Manage and load balance Network/Systems resources, including performance, capacity, availability, serviceability, and recoverability. Implement and maintain established system/network, interface protocols, procedures, software patches, and tools to sustain compliance with the agency’s established configuration baseline. Monitor and analyze Splunk, SolarWinds, and/or designated Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) applications' audit logs and report any irregularities. Analyze, troubleshoot, and/or resolve hardware/software interface and interoperability problems. Serve as technical consultant and SME for On-Prem and/or Cloud COOP Engineering Design, Operations, (current and future state) architectures. Develop, maintain, and archive disaster recovery documentation per the client’s standards, supporting all objectives for operational continuity and addressing system and service failures. Serve as technical Project Lead for Network Security Project Design and Engineering, (defense in depth) and Identity Services Engine (ISE). Ensure NIST/FISMA Compliance with Network Security Standards and CIS benchmarks. Continually implement and sustain compliance with security protocols, procedures, software patches, and tools to sustain compliance with the agency’s established configuration baseline. Ensure the rigorous application of information security and information assurance policies, principles, and practices in the delivery of systems administration services. Use secure practices to ensure no cybersecurity vulnerabilities are introduced during the maintenance/enhancement of the systems. The maintenance/enhancements shall be performed such that the availability of the systems, outside the scheduled maintenance window, is not affected. Tracking against the client’s established plan. Also, maintain and, if necessary, revise the project plan to ensure commitments are fulfilled. Keep the COR apprised of the project status through weekly plan updates and weekly status meetings. Partner with the client and other identified stakeholders to revise the plan to incorporate new information or government priorities. May be required to create and/or present project briefs and attend program meetings and reviews. Develop, document, and/or maintain systems administration standard operating procedures (SOPs).
