Position Summary:
As a premier technology law firm globally, Cooley aims to lead the digital transformation in the legal arena. Reporting to the Director of Data Science, this role will focus on supporting the rollout of a data lake and data migration initiatives. You will play a key role in collaborating with stakeholders to understand data needs, document essential business requirements, and convert them into actionable technical specifications. This is critical for ensuring smooth and effective data migration while adhering to high standards of data quality, governance, and compliance. Position Responsibilities: Engage with business stakeholders and clients to gather and prioritize data requirements and objectives for migration projects. Conduct in-depth data analysis and profiling to understand data pipelines, structures, and quality metrics. Document and prioritize business needs and requirements essential for the data lake and data migration strategies. Translate business requirements into detailed technical specifications and user stories for data engineering and development teams. Collaborate with data engineers and architects to design and develop data pipelines, ETL processes, and data transformations. Perform data validation, testing, and quality assurance to ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency of migrated data. Provide support during user acceptance testing (UAT) and post-migration activities. Fulfill other duties as assigned or required. Skills and Experience: Required: Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office suite after onboarding at Cooley LLP along with other firm applications. Willingness to work extended and/or weekend hours, as necessary. Ability to travel as needed. 3+ years of experience as a Business Analyst focused on data engineering and migration projects; 5+ years for senior candidates. Strong grasp of data engineering concepts, methodologies, and tools, with hands-on experience in data lakehouses such as Databricks, Snowflake, Azure Data Lake, and Azure Data Factory. Proficient in SQL for data analysis, manipulation, and querying. Familiarity with data governance and metadata management tools. Exposure to cloud tools and integrations within enterprise-scale data management platforms. Understanding of relational, dimensional, and columnar data models. Working knowledge of reporting tools like Microsoft Power BI and Jupyter Notebooks. Preferred: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field. Professional certifications in Azure, Snowflake, or Databricks integration. Experience with Agile methodologies and project management practices. Knowledge of performance tuning for large-scale datasets. Familiarity with advanced features like Delta Live Tables and Databricks Unity Catalog. Competencies: Ability to take on leadership roles in cross-functional, matrix team environments. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, able to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences. Proven ability to influence and collaborate with stakeholders across various departments (legal, IS, etc.). Strong analytical and critical thinking skills. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills for effective collaboration. Capacity to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic, fast-paced setting. The expected annual salary for this role ranges from $100,000 to $145,000 based on geographic location and candidate experience. Senior level applicants may be eligible for a higher salary range.
