We seek a highly skilled and innovative Principal Machine Learning Tech Lead to develop the perception stack for Blue River's autonomous tractor initiative. The role involves leading ML model development, training, and testing pipelines to improve system safety and performance in challenging environments, from prototypes to production scale. This is an opportunity to help build the future of autonomous agriculture. Job Responsibilities
Lead design, development, and deployment of machine learning and computer vision models for real-time perception in autonomous agricultural robots. Manage the full ML lifecycle, including dataset design, data collection, training, evaluation, optimization, and deployment on embedded platforms. Collaborate with robotics engineers, software developers, and hardware teams to integrate perception systems into field-ready machines. Lead and mentor a team of CVML engineers, fostering growth, best practices, and a culture of experimentation and delivery. Define and implement the ML roadmap, balancing research and production needs to meet performance, safety, and robustness goals in diverse environments. Prototype and validate new approaches using real-world and synthetic data to improve detection, segmentation, and scene understanding under various conditions. Continuously evaluate model performance in the field and refine approaches to maximize reliability across different crops, terrains, and climates. Required Experience and Skills
8-12 years of experience developing high-performance ML systems. Experience guiding technical vision for large projects and mentoring teams. Strong leadership and communication skills. Hands-on experience with GPU computing on large datasets. Extensive experience with deep learning frameworks like PyTorch. Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science or related field; graduate degree preferred. Preferred Experience and Skills
Experience deploying hardened perception algorithms in production. Building and deploying full-stack ML pipelines. Experience with CVML and robotics projects, especially in vehicle autonomy. Familiarity with TPUs, GPUs, FPGAs. Skills in metrics analysis and dashboarding. Knowledge of robotics libraries such as ROS/ROS2. We value diversity and inclusion.
