As a CNC Machinist / Model Maker , you will work closely with our engineering and design teams to deliver models and prototypes that communicate our design intent. You will be part of the product development team that drives innovation and finds solutions to complex problems. Excellent interpersonal skills are critical to allowing you to succeed in our highly collaborative environment. You must also be highly organized and flexible to manage multiple projects to meet business needs, as well as successfully communicate with stakeholders on the status of the projects. You will apply and develop best practices for transforming concepts and ideas into models and prototypes to communicate with our stakeholders. The ideal candidate will contribute to the Advanced Prototyping Center through a deep understanding of tools, materials and processes and the application of that knowledge to hardware innovation at Microsoft.

Responsibilities:
- Program and operate high speed 3 and 5-axis Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machines, Electrical Discharge Machining (EDMs), manual machines, and supporting equipment to produce high-precision parts from a variety of materials including plastics, aluminum, and stainless steel.
- Maintain tight tolerances and ensure high-quality surface finishes.
- Machining new or modifying existing tight-tolerance and aesthetic parts while balancing the needs for both speed and quality.
- Interpret verbal instructions, sketches, and Computer-Aided Design (CAD) data to fabricate prototypes.
- Collaborate with model makers, engineers, and designers to troubleshoot and refine part designs.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously and communicate progress effectively.
- Work directly with engineers and designers to provide Design for Manufacturability (DFM) feedback.
- I mplement and refine new manufacturing processes.
- Actively participatie in finding solutions with engineers and designers that meet design and schedule requirements.
- Working both independently and collaboratively within a team of individual contributors to enable every member to succeed in their respective tasks.
- Identify and implement continuous improvement projects for area safety and efficiency.
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, Industrial Technology, or related field AND 3+ years model making or prototyping work experience
- OR High School Diploma AND 7+ years model making or shop experience, including building and machining appearance models or prototypes
- OR equivalent experience.
- 3+ years of eperience in a model shop or product development environment using broad swath of materials including plastics, aluminums and steels.
- 3+ years of experience with multi-axis Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machines and complex setups.
- 3+ years of experience in computer aided machining (CAM)/CNC programming and machining multi axis capability.
- 3+ years of experience machining using vertical mills, lathes and other machine tool equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, Industrial Technology, or related field AND 7+ years model making or prototyping work experience
- OR equivalent experience.
- Experience communicating with multiple stakeholder audiences.
- Understanding of safety guidelines in a shop environment.
