What You'll Do
- Champion the design, development, and delivery of cloud-native orchestration services supporting internal systems and vendor platforms
- Define and evolve API contracts (REST, GraphQL), JSON schemas, event contracts and canonical structures, with an emphasis on scalability, performance, and observability
- Contribute to architectural decisions, particularly around microservices, API-to-API, events, webservices/webhooks, in a real-world production context
- Develop a strong understanding of the business processes and logic the orchestration layer supports
- Design and implement data publishing workflows to support operational and analytical data needs, evolving as necessary
- Collaborate closely with engineers, product owners, architects, analysts to translate business needs into working software
- Contribute to the full service lifecycle-from development and CI/CD to infrastructure and deployment
- Champion observability practices including structured logging, monitoring, and instrumentation (Datadog or AWS Cloudwatch experience preferred)
- Drive engineering excellence by leading design reviews, contributing to post-mortems, and documenting key decisions and patterns
- Proactively manage technical debt and enable platform scalability through thoughtful system design and domain ownership
Who You Are
- 5+ years of backend engineering experience, including leadership of complex projects or services, 3+ years working with cloud serverless and orchestration services (AWS preferred - Lambda, Step Functions, API Gateway, EventBridge, etc; similar experience in GCP or Azure will be considered)
- Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science or related field?
- Strong proficiency in modern backend languages/frameworks with cloud SDK support (Node/Typescript, NestJS, Python), experience writing helper functions/data transformations python or similar
- Experience building, integrating with ETL pipelines
- Solid grasp of event-driven architectures, patterns, enrichment, and production-ready design considerations
- Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (CDK, CloudFormation, YAML)
- Experienced in Agile, flexible working culture, delivering solutions in both a '0 to 1' manner, and in small iterations
- Ability to independently set up services, including CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure with secure authentication
- Experience designing systems that publish to an ODS or similar analytical data store, with attention to event durability, schema evolution, and downstream data consumer needs
- Self-directed and adaptable-able to work effectively in greenfield environments, understand how to take a prototyped system or feature to production
- Passionate about mentoring, documenting, and fostering a culture of ownership and excellence
- Experience in insurance or financial technology services is a plus
- Some familiarity with Salesforce development is a plus
