Job Description

Primary Purpose

We are seeking an experienced and technically accomplished Senior Controls Engineer to provide subject matter expertise and technical assurance for all instrumentation, control systems, fire and gas detection, telecommunications, and cybersecurity infrastructure at the Port Arthur LNG Facility. This role is critical in ensuring the safe, reliable, and compliant operation of control systems throughout the facility's lifecycle-from commissioning through steady-state operations.

The ideal candidate will bring deep experience in control system design, lifecycle management, and operational support within complex industrial environments. A key focus of this role is to lead the development of predictive maintenance strategies, manage vendor relationships, and guide junior engineers and technicians in building a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide technical leadership and assurance for DCS, SIS, PLC, instrumentation, fire and gas, telecom, and cybersecurity systems, ensuring alignment with industry standards and project specifications.

Review EPC contractor deliverables and provide expert recommendations to ensure systems are safe, fit-for-purpose, and operationally effective.

Support commissioning, startup, and Ready for Operations (RFO) activities, ensuring smooth transition into the Operate Phase.

Monitor and troubleshoot control systems to ensure performance meets design intent and operational requirements.

Guide and mentor DCS technicians and junior engineers, fostering technical development and knowledge transfer.

Lead the development of predictive maintenance strategies for major instrumentation and control systems, including planning for upgrades and functional safety testing.

Support the Maintenance Department post-commissioning with technical troubleshooting, system optimization, and lifecycle planning.

Develop and manage service agreements for DCS, SIS, and related control systems, ensuring vendor performance and technical compliance.

Execute lifecycle management programs for control systems, including obsolescence planning, spare parts management, and upgrade scheduling.

Assist in training programs for I&C technicians and engineers to build internal capability and ensure safe, effective operations.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

Education

Bachelor's degree in electrical, Control Systems, or Instrumentation Engineering or a related field. Required

Experience

8+ years of experience in control systems engineering within industrial or energy infrastructure environments.

Skills and Abilities

Strong expertise in DCS, SIS, PLC systems, and field instrumentation.

Proven experience in lifecycle management, predictive maintenance, and vendor coordination.

Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.

LNG or large-scale energy project experience is highly desirable.

Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) required.

Licenses and Certifications

Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification.

Other qualifications

Experience with Emerson DeltaV, Honeywell, or similar control systems.

Familiarity with cybersecurity standards for industrial control systems.

Functional Safety certification (e.g., TUV Functional Safety Engineer).

Work Schedule

HYBRID: Work a combination of onsite and remote days each week, typically 3 days per week onsite.

$141,800.00 - $212,700.00 / year
