This means the successful candidate is expected to report to their primary location (Mountain View, CA OR Warren, MI) three times per week, at minimum. The Role:
Connectivity plays a pivotal role in using and advancing technology to offer unparalleled customer experience and develop revenue-generating streams while acting as a cornerstone to offer safety-critical, hands-free driving solutions in line with General Motor’s strong safety culture. We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Connectivity Module Hardware Engineer with a strong background in 5G, BT, Wi-Fi, BLE, UWB, and NFC technologies. The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of management experience in hardware development as well as hands-on experience in hardware design, including system architecture, schematics capture, thermal analysis, and layout related to power circuitry, PCB flooring plan, RF front end, etc., to develop best-in-class Connectivity systems for General Motor’s vehicles. The Connectivity Module Hardware Engineering Manager will be responsible for managing a small team and leading the design, development, function/performance validation, and issue resolution of hardware components and systems that support Connectivity technologies across all GM vehicles and architectures. This role involves collaboration with vehicle integration, product managers, and system engineers to create secure and reliable Connectivity solutions and to define future technology roadmaps. What You’ll do: Design, develop, and test Connectivity hardware systems, including microcontrollers, sensors, wireless communication modules (5G, BT, Wi-Fi, BLE, NFC, UWB), and power management circuits while maintaining module performance and signal integrity. Create detailed system architectures, schematics, layouts, and thermal analyses to ensure system performance requirements. Collaborate with vehicle integration and packaging teams to integrate digital key hardware systems into the broader vehicle electrical architecture. Develop and validate prototypes, conduct rigorous testing, and ensure hardware meets function, signal integrity, and performance requirements. Provide troubleshooting support for hardware-related issues, perform root-cause analysis, and implement corrective actions. Work closely with internal teams to ensure all program deliveries and dates are met for design releases, vehicle integration, testing, defect resolution, and product launch. Stay updated with the latest advancements in Connectivity technology and hardware design, and recommend process and product improvements. Support sourcing decisions and provide direction to CMs throughout development. Ensure all hardware designs comply with relevant industry standards (ISO/IEC, CE, FCC) and regulatory requirements. Report project status, roadblocks, and escalation requests to senior leaders. Additional Job Description Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications): Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent with extensive industry experience. 5+ years of management experience in hardware development. 10+ years of experience in hardware design and testing. Expertise in 5G, BT, Wi-Fi, BLE, UWB, and NFC technologies. Proficiency in PCB design using tools like Xpedition, Altium, Eagle, KiCad. Experience with hardware debugging tools such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and signal generators. Knowledge of embedded systems design and microcontroller architectures (ARM, etc.). Excellent problem-solving skills and teamwork abilities. Preferred Skills: 15+ years in hardware design and testing. Master’s degree in a related engineering field. Knowledge of automotive or access control systems. Experience with wireless protocols, RF design, and antenna systems. This position is based in Troy, MI, with a salary range of $160,000 - $190,000.00, and may include relocation benefits and a company vehicle program.
