Senior Project Engineer, Municipal

Job Description We are TERRA Engineering, Ltd. We are seeking an experienced Municipal Civil Engineer to join a dynamic in-house village engineering team at a major municipality in the southwest suburbs of Chicago. The role will be full-time on-site, reporting directly to the Village Engineer at our client’s Village Hall. You Will Prepare plans, specifications, and bid documents for various infrastructure projects. Oversee the Village's MFT program. Perform construction oversight and administration. Ensure conformance with plans and specifications and advise appropriate personnel of variances needing correction. Interact with the public to respond to inquiries and aid in developing solutions related to their concerns. Maintain detailed project documentation. Conduct site investigations. Assist with analyses for technical reports and grants. Assist with the budgetary planning process and provide technical expertise and analysis for the Capital Improvement Program. Manage outside regulatory agency permits and coordinate with such agencies. Provide technical support during various project stages, including preliminary design, final design, and contract documentation, including cost estimates and specifications. Develop memorandums and other written technical documents. Assist with reviewing plans, specifications, and bid packages. Support projects by attending meetings and interacting with agency officials and contractors. Perform additional responsibilities as required by village needs. Qualifications Minimum of eight (8) years of increasingly responsible municipal engineering experience, including supervisory experience. PE licensure required. Knowledge of civil engineering principles, applicable laws, and regulatory codes relevant to the area of responsibility. Ability to interpret engineering construction plans, specifications, and contract documents. Experience in research, data gathering, analysis, report preparation, and making formal presentations. Excellent customer service, strong written and oral communication skills, and good time-management skills. Organized, self-motivated, and able to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an accredited college or university. A valid driver's license is required. Experience with municipal government is strongly preferred.
