Target Range:

$150,000.00/Yr. - $175,000.00/Yr.

Actual starting pay will vary based on factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, experience, skills, specialty, and education.

Eligible for an Annual Discretionary Cash Bonus Target: 17.5%

Eligible for an Annual Discretionary Restricted Stock Units Bonus Target: 17.5%

These discretionary target bonuses may be awarded semi-annually based upon your achievement of performance goals and targets.

About This Job

The First Vice President (FVP), Commercial Underwriter is a senior-level position responsible for leading the underwriting and risk assessment process for complex commercial lending transactions. This role works closely with Relationship Managers, Credit Officers, and Executive Leadership to evaluate creditworthiness, structure loan packages, and ensure adherence to the institution’s risk appetite and regulatory guidelines. The FVP plays a key role in managing portfolio risk and supporting the growth of high-quality commercial loan assets.

Responsibilities:

Lead the underwriting of large and complex commercial loans, including C&I, CRE, construction, and specialty lending Analyze borrower financials, market trends, collateral, and industry risks to assess creditworthiness and structure appropriate credit facilities Ensure all underwriting complies with internal credit policies, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices Prepare and present comprehensive credit approval memoranda to senior credit committees Act as a strategic partner to Relationship Managers, providing guidance on deal structure, risk mitigation, and pricing strategies Monitor existing portfolio performance and proactively identify emerging risks Mentor and provide guidance to junior underwriters and credit analysts; may oversee a small team Participate in policy development and process improvement initiatives related to credit risk and underwriting standards Serve as a subject matter expert for commercial underwriting and risk evaluation

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field required; MBA or advanced degree preferred Minimum 10 years of experience in commercial credit underwriting, including large/complex loan structures Deep knowledge of financial statement analysis, loan structuring, collateral evaluation, and cash flow modeling Strong understanding of regulatory guidelines (OCC, FDIC, Basel III) and internal risk-rating systems Proven ability to communicate complex credit decisions clearly and persuasively to senior leadership Excellent analytical, organizational, and leadership skills Experience with portfolio management and risk monitoring tools is a plus High proficiency in credit software platforms and Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel and PowerPoint)
