PenFed is hiring a (Hybrid) Dir, Consumer Loan Lending Policy & Analytics at our Tysons, Virginia; Dallas, Texas or San Antonio, Texas location. The primary purpose of this job is to own the end-to-end development and implementation of credit strategy/policy and conduct credit risk monitoring & analytics for Consumer Loan products, including Auto Loan, Unsecured Personal Loan, and any other loan products.
This position will contribute to setting up a strategic goal/credit agenda and managing a team of managers & analysts. This position plays a critical role in enhancing consumer banking lending strategy and optimization to meet various business goals, i.e., optimizing targeting & acquisition strategy, reducing losses, mitigate credit abuse risk, enhance lending program economics, and elevating member retention/engagement.

Manage automated/judgmental decisioning credit strategies for Consumer Loan programs. Develop consumer loan credit policies and underwriting criteria, including approve/decline, line assignment, ability to pay & income verification and judgmental decisioning criteria. Assist with defining consumer loan Credit Risk Appetite / Tolerance limits. Develop targeting credit strategies to support business growth. Partner with business segment product owners in optimizing acquisition targeting/marketing campaigns that align with credit policies. Partner with Product Team to define risk segmentation, loss expectations / risk premium to support Risk Adjusted Pricing. Monitor credit quality, risk performance and economics of consumer loan portfolio on the ongoing basis to prevent or mitigate consumer loan losses. Perform business line program deep dive and monitoring on credit policy change to drive credit policy optimization and risk mitigation strategies, inform corporate strategic decisions, enable better member experience, and improve efficiencies. Drive monitoring and analysis of credit risk for both organic and acquired portfolio, prepare related management / Board reporting, and provide insights on emerging credit trends and implications on Allowance for Loan Losses. Manage the enhancement, maintenance, and monitoring of acquisition cash flow/NPV valuation model at segment or loan level to enable cutoff decision and line assignment optimization. Ground and extrapolate economics inputs, assumptions, and curve shape. Evaluate, recommend, and productionize valuation platform. Automate sensitivity and gaming functionality. Develop automated monitoring to assess actual performance against model forecast Provide risk analytics to support credit expansion by overseeing credit aspects of onboarding of acquired portfolios and product launch. Act as a strategic and trusted partner with Product Team as they evaluate new asset classes/products. Partner with key stakeholders in various groups (Credit Risk Modeling, Product, second line Credit Risk, Compliance, Operations, Finance and Enterprise Risk Management) to identify areas of opportunity and spearhead initiatives to enable profitable growth while minimizing credit risk exposure and adapting to changing economic and regulatory environment. Manage analysts to achieve team’s strategic goals, training and assisting development of skills and cultivating credit culture. Maintain strong working knowledge of consumer lending related regulations to ensure compliance. Remain abreast of financial regulatory developments in credit risk management and best practices within the industry. Participate in external and internal audits, and regulatory examinations as needed. Identify required data and work with data stewards to understand data source, ensure data quality and retrieve data on a timely basis. Contribute to credit data mart and corporate database designs. Provide thoughtful leadership and foster collaboration towards the attainment of corporate goals.
Qualifications
Equivalent combination of education and experience is considered.
Bachelor’s degree in business, Economics, Quantitative Discipline or Equivalent, Finance is required. MBA or Master’s degree in the related field is highly preferred. Minimum of twelve (12) years’ experience in credit strategy, credit policy & analysis or credit risk management in the financial services industry. Minimum of five (5) years of direct management experience. Experience in Consumer Lending products including Credit Card, Auto Loan and Unsecured Personal Loan. Experience in building support to gain acceptance and buy-in on credit decisions in a collaborative environment. Ability to provide business leadership and partnering skills to help drive the organization towards critical decisions and deliverable results. Excellent written, verbal communication and presentation skills. Demonstrate strong clear thinking and succinct delivery of message. Ability to explain complex topics simply to a wide variety of audiences. Self-motivated and strong people skills to actively lead and implement ideas in a cross-functional team environment. Proven project management skills, ability to manage multiple projects. Strong skills in various data analysis and visualization tools including PowerPoint, Excel, Tableau and SQL are required. Proficiency with statistical tools (R, Python) is preferred.

This position will supervise employees.
