Principal Highway Engineer

4 days ago Be among the first 25 applicants Advantage Engineering Associates, PC is seeking a Principal Civil Engineer specializing in Highway and Traffic to become part of our Highway and Traffic team. This position can be based in any of our two office locations: Cranbury, NJ or New York City. The ideal candidate will be capable of supporting and leading the design and development of roadway design projects and preparing plans. We are particularly interested in candidates experienced in designing roadway geometry, roadside safety features, ADA compliance, site development, utility coordination, creating contract documents (such as specifications, plans, and cost estimates), and traffic maintenance plans. Experience working with agencies like NJDOT, NJTA, and PANYNJ is preferred. Responsibilities Lead roadway engineering efforts on complex transportation projects for NJDOT, NJTA, and other regional agencies. Develop design strategies and provide technical direction to support the creation of safe, efficient, and sustainable infrastructure. Responsible for key design tasks, contribute to the preparation of plans and technical documentation, assist in managing project activities, and help ensure timely, high-quality project delivery. Oversee multidisciplinary teams, offer guidance to junior staff, and continue to expand both my technical skills and client-facing experience in the transportation sector. Develop roadway design concepts and establishing design criteria and direction for major project components. I prepare and review engineering drawings, specifications, and cost estimates, covering areas such as roadway geometry, grading, drainage, and traffic maintenance. Perform quality assurance and control reviews to ensure accuracy and consistency in technical deliverables. Mentor junior team members, offering technical support and oversight on assigned tasks. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering required 12+ years of progressive transportation engineering experience. PE License in NJ and/or NY, required. Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certificate and be on-track to obtain a PE License within one year, applicable. Proficiency in Microstation and AutoCAD preferred Experience with InRoads and Civil3D preferred Preferred project experience includes either NJDOT or PANYNJ Excellent verbal and written communication skills If you are a highly motivated self-starter, we can offer you the challenge, responsibility and compensation you deserve. Compensation will be dependent on the experience and expertise of the incoming candidate.
