About the Team CNN's Editorial Experience organization seeks a Software Engineering Manager to lead development of cutting-edge tools and workflows for CNN's Content Management System (CMS). This role will oversee teams responsible for enhancing the editing experience and delivering innovative solutions across the full stack—from front-end to back-end. As a Software Engineering Manager, you will manage two teams of 3+ engineers each, set technical direction, support career growth, and provide feedback. You will collaborate with cross-functional partners and stakeholders on planning, strategy, quality, and delivery to produce products our customers love. We value your ability to work independently, connect genuinely with teammates, communicate effectively, and bring diverse perspectives. Our tech stack includes JavaScript, Vue, Node, Python, Sass, and AWS services. The Daily Lead, mentor, and manage two teams of software engineers. Contribute to code & architecture reviews, define engineering standards. Support engineers through coaching, goal setting, and feedback. Facilitate team ceremonies such as daily stand-ups, retrospectives. Lead design, discovery, technical planning, and discussions. Engage in high-level planning, roadmaps, and organizational status updates. Perform code reviews, guidance, or direct coding contributions. Requirements Bachelor's degree in CS, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience). 2+ years of experience managing and growing engineering teams. Excellent communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences. Experience with hiring, onboarding, and developing engineers. Proven success delivering high-quality software iteratively and sustainably. Deep industry experience with modern development tech, client/server familiarity, understanding of data structures and algorithms. Hands-on in modern JavaScript, maintaining and developing components. Experience with AWS, infrastructure as code (CloudFormation, Terraform), monitoring (CloudWatch, CloudTrail), CI/CD (CodePipeline, CodeBuild). Security-first mindset, optimizing code for performance and scalability. Nice to haves: Quick learner of new technologies, languages, frameworks. Familiarity with various languages, SDKs, platforms. CMS platform experience preferred. Experience with Datadog, some Python experience advantageous. About you: Excited to learn and lead new challenges. Passionate about mentoring and growing engineers.
