The Hazardous Materials Division is the designated local agency assigned to implement the Hazardous Materials program to protect the public from exposure to hazardous materials and hazardous waste. We Are Looking For Someone Who

Analytical. You will be drawing conclusions from data compiled during audits. A team player. You will be working with others as part of audits, inspections, and investigations. Attentive to detail. Conducting on-site audits for compliance to the Accidental Release Prevention Program Partnering with Department of Conservation and Development in reviewing hazard scores Reviewing incident investigations with other staff Conducting training workshops for staff Learning key aspects of process safety Writing and reviewing policies for programs Assisting team members with their tasks

The eligible list established from this recruitment may remain in effect for six (6) months.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Possession of a Bachelor’s of Science degree from an accredited college or university with a Chemical Engineering major or closely related field.

Experience:

Five (5) years full-time, or its equivalent, experience in the chemical process industries, two (2) years, or its equivalent of which must have been in or closely related to process safety management activities such as: Process Hazard Analysis, operator training, mechanical integrity, Management Of Change, pre-startup review, incident investigation, root cause analysis, damage mechanism review, inherently safer systems, emergency response, contractor safety, and operating procedures; OR the regulation of chemical process industries, such as: process safety, process engineering, project engineering, process design, operations, or research/development.

Substitution:

A Master’s Degree in Chemical Engineering or a closely related field may be substituted for two (2) years of the required experience in the chemical process industries.

Desirable Qualifications

Experience in various environmental health programs Experience providing direction to professional and/or support staff Experiencing supporting multi-disciplinary teams Experience supporting environmental health administration

Selection Process

Application Filing and Evaluation: All applicants will be required to complete a supplemental questionnaire at the time of application. Applications will be evaluated to determine which candidates will move forward in the next phase of the recruitment process. Behavioral Consistency Questionnaire (BCQ) Assessment: Candidates who possess the minimum qualifications will be invited to participate in an online assessment. The online assessment will measure candidates' competencies as they relate to the job and candidates must achieve an average passing score of 70% or higher on each of the competencies, as well as an overall passing score of 70% or higher. These competencies may include but are not limited to: Analyzing & Interpreting Data, Reading Comprehension, Attention to Detail and Writing. (Weighted 100%)

The BCQ is tentatively scheduled to take place via computer (remotely) during the week of July 3, 2024.

The Behavioral Consistency Questionnaire will be administered remotely using a computer or mobile device such as a tablet or smartphone. You will need access to a reliable internet connection to take the assessment, as well as a computer or mobile device with a camera.

The Human Resources Department may change the examination steps noted above in accordance with the Personnel Management Regulations and accepted selection practices.
