The Department of Labor (DOL) requires a skilled consultant to work within a service-oriented architecture (SOA) to support critical applications and services. This includes an Expert Software Architect responsible for maintaining current applications across multiple program areas and conducting quality assurance work. Day-to-Day Responsibilities
Design and implement scalable, reusable test automation frameworks compatible with modern CI/CD pipelines, selecting appropriate tools and technologies. Mentor team members in best practices for coding, testing, and deployment, fostering a culture of technical excellence. Guide architectural decision-making for test automation, evaluating suitable architectures, design patterns, and technologies. Stay current with emerging technologies in test automation and quality engineering, evaluating and integrating new tools and methodologies. Define long-term technical strategies and develop a technical roadmap aligned with the department's goals. Build and maintain stakeholder relationships, ensuring alignment of automation efforts with business needs through regular communication. Daily Tasks
Develop SQL queries and collaborate with analysts and developers to verify data accuracy. Execute functional tests, analyze failures, report defects, and ensure compliance using tools like Micro Focus ALM, MasterCraft, and JIRA. Design and implement test automation frameworks using scripting languages such as JavaScript, Java, VB Script, C++, and Selenium. Mentor team members, guide architectural decisions, and maintain stakeholder relationships. Manage release notes, test artifacts, and integrate new testing tools and methodologies. Oversee version control, GitHub repositories, branching strategies, CI/CD processes, and security protocols. Mandatory Qualifications
Make high-level design choices, dictate technical standards, and design large-scale software system architectures. 84+ months of experience providing guidance to large teams or extensive industry experience, considered at the top of the field. Requested Qualifications
84 months of experience in agile development of complex J2EE-based SOA systems, including planning, mentoring, and code development in Java/Javascript. 84 months of experience in test execution, defect management, and using tools like Micro Focus ALM, MasterCraft, and JIRA. 84 months of experience designing and implementing test automation frameworks with scripting languages and Selenium. 84 months of experience managing version control with GitHub, branching strategies, and CI/CD workflows. Experience with testing tools such as Microfocus ALM, UFT, LoadRunner, and web services testing in SOA environments. Proficiency in SQL for verifying database accuracy, especially in cross-component transactions. Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Computer Science or Engineering. Additional Details
