Job Summary: Anthropic is dedicated to creating reliable and beneficial AI systems, and they are seeking a Performance Engineer to solve novel systems problems in machine learning. The role involves optimizing large-scale distributed systems and developing infrastructure for AI model pre-training, contributing to both immediate product deployment and long-term research initiatives. Responsibilities: • Identifying systems problems related to running machine learning algorithms at scale • Developing systems that optimize throughput and robustness of distributed systems • Building infrastructure for large-scale pre-training runs • Developing and optimizing pretraining pipeline for AI models • Creating reliable infrastructure and frameworks for efficiency across computing architectures Qualifications: Required: • Significant software engineering or machine learning experience, particularly at supercomputing scale • Results-oriented, with a bias towards flexibility and impact • Ability to pick up slack, even if it goes outside your job description • Desire to learn more about machine learning research • Care about the societal impacts of your work • At least a Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience Preferred: • High performance, large-scale ML systems • GPU/Accelerator programming • Language modeling with transformers Company: Anthropic is an AI research company that focuses on the safety and alignment of AI systems with human values.
