Department Summary The Office of the Chancellor at UCLA serves as the central executive authority, guiding the university's strategic vision and ensuring the fulfillment of its mission in education, research, and public service. The chancellor shapes the campus's strategic plan and oversees a substantial budget, managing a diverse community of over 43,000 students, 4,300 faculty, and 42,000 staff members. Position Summary Under the general direction of the Chief of Staff to the Chancellor, the Managing Director, Chancellor's Office serves as a senior strategic advisor, operational leader, and executive project manager supporting the work of the Chancellor and the Chancellor's Office. This role exercises significant judgment, discretion, and political acumen in coordinating cross-functional initiatives, leading special projects, and providing operational oversight within the Chancellor's Office. Salary & Compensation *UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Qualifications Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience supporting senior executives in a large, complex, mission-driven organization. (Required) Direct experience within the UC system or a comparable public higher education environment. (Preferred) Demonstrated success managing strategic initiatives and cross-functional teams with high visibility. (Required) Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to interact with campus leadership, faculty, and external stakeholders. (Required) Experience supervising administrative professionals and fostering inclusive workplace practices. (Required) High level of discretion, confidentiality, and political judgment. (Required) Availability to work evenings and weekends, as needed. (Required) Knowledge of UC/UCLA governance structures, policies, and administrative systems. (Preferred) Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations Bachelor's Degree degree in public administration, higher education, political science, or related field (Required) Or equivalent combination of education and experience. Advanced degree in public administration, higher education, law, or related field.
