Description
This Medical Assistant position will primarily fulfill the functions of rooming patients, preparing medical records, and processing medication refills. When the Receptionist is out of the office, the Medical Assistant will perform those duties to provide adequate coverage of the small office.
MEDICAL ASSISTANT ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Room and prepare patients following established practice protocols (e.g., weight, vital signs, medication review, histories and review of systems on new patients).
- Perform EKG's.
- Prepare all electronic medical records prior to the scheduled office for all clinics assigned to their primary POD.
- Administer all refill requests according to established practice protocols and physician approval.
- Assist the Registered Nurses with patient education, testing instructions, and sample requests.
- Clean and stock exam rooms.
- Manages patient check-in and check-out processes, handles patient inquiries, schedules appointments, and ensures a smooth and efficient patient flow. Plays a crucial role in creating a positive and welcoming experience for all patients.
EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION
- High school diploma or GED and current BLS certification required.
- Preferred: Certification of a Medical Assistant (RMA, CCMA, CMA, CNA).
- Experience working in a clinic or healthcare setting is helpful.
- Knowledge of cardiac medications.
- Knowledge of basic cardiac procedures and tests.
- Skill in taking vital signs and performing EKGs.
- Skill in using a computer and electronic medical record systems (EMR).
- The ability to examine documents and medical records for accuracy and completeness.
- The ability to prepare records in accordance with detailed instructions.
ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS: Combination of medical office and exam room settings. May be exposed to hazards- possible blood borne pathogens, bodily fluids, and cleaning chemicals.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS: Varied activities including standing, walking, reaching, bending, and lifting. Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
