GENERAL STATEMENT OF THE
FUNCTION

REQUIREMENTS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION AND/OR
EXPERIENCE

High School Diploma or GED
– Minimum baseline for entry into the field.
The Custodian plays a vital role in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment across campus facilities. This position supports the overall mission of the institution by ensuring that all spaces reflect the standards of care, professionalism, and pride upheld by the Physical Plant Operations team.
Key Responsibilities
Clean and sanitize restrooms, classrooms, offices, and common areas
Empty trash receptacles and replace liners; manage recycling stations
Dust, sweep, mop, vacuum, and polish floors and surfaces
Wash windows, mirrors, and glass surfaces
Secure buildings by locking doors and windows after hours
Report safety hazards, maintenance needs, and vandalism promptly
Maintain exterior areas including entrances, sidewalks, and grounds as needed
Assist with furniture setup, event preparation, and moving tasks
Safely handle and store cleaning chemicals and supplies
Maintain cleaning logs and supply inventory
Qualifications
Proven experience in custodial or janitorial work preferred
Familiarity with industrial cleaning equipment and safe chemical handling
Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Physical stamina to lift, bend, and stand for extended periods
High school diploma or equivalent preferred

Proactive problem-solving and situational awareness
Accountability and pride in workmanship
Willingness to learn and grow within a supportive team culture
Other duties may be assigned.
