LOCATION: West Valley Innovation Center

WORKDAY: 8 hours a day/ 5 days a week/ 180-day days a year

PURPOSE STATEMENT: The Graduation Specialist plays a key role in supporting West Valley Virtual Academy (WVVA) student success GRADES K - 12. This position works closely with students, families, and staff to monitor student progress, keep records up to date, and make sure students are on track in their online courses. The specialist also supports the daily operations of WVVA and the Innovation Center, helping with communication, supervision, and special projects.

MINIMUM QUALIFIACTIONS:

Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent, Two year degree or higher, preferred Experience: Two years of job-related experience working in secondary or post-secondary education Experience with Excel, learning management systems, and other related programs used to track data and stay organized JOB DESCRIPTION:

Support West Valley Virtual Academy operation and the students and their families by: Promoting enrollment in WVVA and assisting with the enrollment and registration process. Monitoring student progress and keeping detailed records of communication, meetings, and course planning. Communicating regularly with WVVA families by phone, email, and in person to share important information and updates. Meeting with students and families to provide support, answer questions, and make sure they understand graduation requirements. Working with Greenways Academy and WVIC counselors, registrars, and administrators. Helping develop and improve virtual learning practices to better serve WVVA students. Collaborating with other West Valley departments as needed to support student success. Collecting and organizing data to share with stakeholders and for state reporting. Being understanding and empathetic to the needs of students and families, a friendly and respectful communicator, proactive, organized, dependable, and willing to take on a variety of tasks. Support the Innovation Center with student supervision and other assigned duties. Bilingual Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities SKILLS are required to perform multiple tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the job include: operate standard office equipment including using relevant software, prepare and maintain accurate records, effective oral and written communication skills (with students, parents and staff), leadership abilities, and organizational skills.

KNOWLEDGE is required to perform calculations including fractions, percents, and ratios; read a variety of materials, write documents following prescribed formats, and present information to others. Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the job includes: concepts of grammar and punctuation, stages of child development and learning styles, and age appropriate activities. A second language may be required.

ABILITY is required to schedule activities, collate data, use job related office equipment, and understand complex, multi-step written and oral instructions. Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances. Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals. Problem solving with data requires the ability to follow prescribed guidelines. Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: communicating with diverse groups, maintaining confidentiality, setting priorities, and working as part of a team. Occasional lifting (able to lift 50 pounds and assisting in lifting over 50 pounds), carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity.
