About MotherDuck

Don't let the quirky name fool you! We're on a mission to radically transform the data analyst user experience. We empower and delight analysts using a novel cloud architecture built on top of DuckDB, an open source foundation with a vibrant community. Our team is a diverse mix of passionate, collaborative and empathetic data industry veterans from Google, Amazon, Meta, Snowflake, Looker, SingleStore, Databricks, and the like.

We're shaking up assumptions on how data should be done! We empower and delight data practitioners using a novel cloud architecture. We believe in the power of single node databases, built on top of DuckDB, an open source foundation with a vibrant community.

Our engineering team comes from a wide mix of backgrounds, running the gamut from data experts to generalists, from big tech to start ups, and SaaS companies to government and finance.

But no matter where we've come from, we're passionate, collaborative and customer-focused. We work together as a team from across our engineering hubs in Seattle, San Francisco, New York, and Amsterdam.

MotherDuck's infrastructure team builds the systems and tools that make our platform reliable, secure, and easy to operate. We're hiring engineers who enjoy automating everything, designing for observability and resilience, and making it easy for the rest of the team to ship and operate high-quality software.

If you're energized by a blend of cloud systems work, software development, and operational strategy, we'd love to hear from you.

What you will do Build and maintain infrastructure components using Go and Python across areas such as compute, networking, and storage Design and improve CI/CD pipelines that enable safe and fast software delivery Implement observability tooling and dashboards that surface system health and improve oncall effectiveness Automate operational workflows to reduce manual intervention and increase consistency Collaborate with product and backend teams to embed operational best practices into product development Participate in incident response and ongoing efforts to improve system reliability and security What We're Looking For: Experience working with cloud-native infrastructure (AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, etc.) Strong programming skills and the ability to design software systems that are secure, scalable, and maintainable Familiarity with observability tooling such as Prometheus, Grafana, or OpenTelemetry A strong sense of ownership and a pragmatic approach to engineering tradeoffs Interest in building internal tools and automation to make development and operations easier for others Example Projects:

Autoscaling in the EU region and private link networking Secure CI/CD pipelines with built-in observability Logging frameworks to support cross-system debugging What people should be saying if you're doing ducking awesome

"Their automation saved me hours this week, and I didn't even have to ask." "Our oncall pages are quieter because of the systems they built." "They made our CI/CD pipeline so smooth I almost miss the old chaos... almost." "Every dashboard they touch actually tells me something useful." "I trust our infrastructure more now because they think three steps ahead." What we provide

Does this role sound appealing to you, but you're missing some of the requirements or don't quite think you're qualified? Please apply anyway. Research has shown that underrepresented groups in technology often shy away from roles which aren't a 100% match. We aim to build a diverse team and will strongly consider applicants who bring many of the requirements plus have other experiences which round out their qualifications.
