Site Description

The Youth Services Center (YSC) is the District of Columbia's detention center for male and female youth, responsible for the care and custody of young people placed in secure detention by court order from the DC Superior Court Family Court Division.

Position Overview

The Student Support Specialist has a critical role in the school by supporting each scholar in achieving their education goals through active support in the classrooms, both academically and behaviorally, in classrooms, on units, and/or in one-on-one tutoring sessions. The Student Support Specialist team will also be the primary onsite substitute teachers as needed.

Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

Provide academic support as a classroom assistant during assigned times in the classroom and study hall Work with scholars assigned to computer-based classes based on individual student schedule needs Assessing individual learning styles and adapting teaching methods to fit Support the Instructional Team as a substitute teacher where coverage is needed Managing administrative assignments effectively and with a high level of professionalism and integrity Participating in internal interdisciplinary team meetings Other duties as assigned Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field (required) Experience working with opportunity or justice-involved youth (preferred)

Salary and Benefits

Maya Angelou Schools and See Forever Foundation salaries are comparable to those of other public charter schools in the District of Columbia area.
