Job Summary

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for the effective operation, repair and changeovers of production equipment. The role also works with others to achieve factory business objectives of safety, equipment reliability, productivity, customer service, quality, cost and environmental protection. The primary accountabilities of the role include safety compliance, attaining high equipment reliability and uptime, equipment maintenance procedures, data collection, housekeeping, problem solving and continuous improvement as part of a work team.

The primary accountabilities of the role include troubleshoot, repair, and preventative maintenance as required to ensure equipment reliability; assist with root cause analysis to identify reasons for failures and breakdowns; review electrical and pneumatic schematics during troubleshooting, repair and project work; and will work closely with the operators to support production and transfer skills to Operation Technicians.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Task:

Troubleshoots, repair and preventive maintenance (PM) as required to ensure equipment reliability.

Complete work orders as scheduled and documented in SAP in a timely manner.

Reviews equipment instructions, blueprints, electrical, and pneumatic schematics to ascertain test specifications, procedures, objectives, test equipment, nature of technical problem, and possible solutions such as part redesign, substitution of material or parts, or re-engineering of parts or subassemblies.

Assists Operations and Engineering teams with root cause analysis to identify reasons for equipment failures and breakdowns.

Records test procedures and results, numerical and graphical data, and makes recommendations for changes in product or test method.

Fabricates machine parts as needed.

Works with teams and focus resources, planner scheduler and assures correct PM's are in SAP.

Helps maintain spare parts inventory and restocking inventory for the plant as needed.

Audits work order completion and effectiveness.

Trains and assists in the changeovers of automated equipment.

Accurately and fully completes all regulatory and compliance related documentation and procedures.

Participates in structured group or team activities related to line/area performance improvement e.g. autonomous maintenance (AM), housekeeping, problem solving etc.

Works with operators to support production and transfer skills to Operation technicians.

Understand and comply with Hill's policies, safety standards, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and Food Safety. Identify and report Food Safety issues to management.

Additional Qualifications/Responsibilities

Education/ Experience Requirements

Basic qualifications include:

1+ years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing plant or an Associate's Degree in a related field

3+ years manufacturing experience

Practical knowledge of basic maintenance shop equipment

Problem assessment, problem solving and basic math skills

Intermediate computer skills in Google suite (Gmail, Sheets, Docs, Slides) and Microsoft Excel

Preferred qualifications include:

Technical certificate in an industrial related field

1+ years manufacturing or similar experience with an emphasis in industrial maintenance, mechanics and electronics

Experience using electronic maintenance work order systems

Previous SAP experience

Excellent written and oral communication skills

Previous similar manufacturing experience (food, pet food, pharmaceuticals)

Ability to work an off-shift work schedule that includes weekends.

Expected Areas of Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Ability to work on weekends.

Perform preventative maintenance, troubleshoot, maintain and repair operating equipment during production and breakdowns.

Review blueprints, project instructions, electrical & pneumatic schematics during troubleshooting, repair or project work.

Utilize maintenance shop equipment to include drill press, lathe, mill, welding, etc.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to bend, climb, crawl, and work in confined spaces, and work in hazardous condition spaces for up to twelve hours per day.

Ability to work in extreme weather conditions with temperature ranges from cold to hot and humid

Ability to use hazardous materials

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs on continual basis

Complete tasks that require working with hands overhead

Use a stand-up or sit-down forklift, intermittently for up to twelve hours per day

Type, using a computer keyboard, intermittently for up to twelve hours per day

Walk unlimited distances each day.

Frequently walk up and down multiple levels of steps, multiple times a day, up to 8.5 levels - carrying tool bag, materials, or other supplies that weigh 25 lbs on average

Occasionally climb ladders or ledges, with tie-off equipment when required

Frequently bend at waist 90 degrees and flex at knees 120 degrees

Wear required personal protective equipment, including hearing, eye, foot and dust protection.

Frequently perform tasks in an environment that contains significant levels of dust

Perceive visual and audible alarms and telephones while wearing hearing protection

Receive and transmit information in person and by telephone communications

Compensation and Benefits Salary Range $30.00 - $ USD

Pay is determined based on experience, qualifications, and location. Salaried employees may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses, profit-sharing, and long-term incentives for Executive-level roles.
