Database Manager & Development Associate Reporting to the Director of Development, the Database Manager & Development Associate (DMDA) will play a key role in supporting the fundraising and donor engagement efforts of the Aurora Inc and will be an integral part of Auroras development team. This is a full-time position based in Washington, D.C. with the expectation of at least 4 days per week in office. A moderate level of travel (both domestic and international) should be expected.

The ideal candidate for this position is a strategic thinker and problem-solver with strong organizational, analytical and communications skills and experience in fundraising databases and prospect research. They are committed to advancing mission-driven work and are interested in pursuing a career in development.

The DMDA has primary responsibility for the accurate management, reporting, and optimization of Auroras Raisers Edge NXT database. In addition to maintaining high standards of data integrity, the DMDA supports key fundraising initiatives, including gift processing, donor stewardship, prospect research, campaign tracking and reporting and event planning. This position is ideal for an early-career professional who takes initiative, is well-organized, detail-oriented and has the desire, background and aptitude to learn and advance new systems and technologies.

Key Responsibilities:

Database & Gift Management (50-60%) Become the in-house database expert, maintaining and ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and confidentiality of donor and gift data in Raisers Edge NXT. Process daily gifts and pledges, generate acknowledgments and receipts in an accurate and timely manner. Conduct regular data hygiene audits and updates (deduplication, address updates, clean-up). Create and manage queries, reports, and exports to support fundraising campaigns, events, mailings, and analytics. Assist in tracking donor engagement, campaign performance, and fundraising metrics. Serve as internal point-person for Raisers Edge NXT, providing training to staff on basic functionality and best practices. Document data processes and organize and develop the organizations growing knowledge base of database procedures. Partner with consultants, vendors, and IT as needed for technology integrations and improvements. Work with the finance team to ensure monthly reconciliation and accuracy of revenue.

Development Operations & Support (30-40%) Lead and manage themoves-managementsystem, weekly pipeline updates and prospect assignments. Support direct mail and email campaigns by generating accurate mailing lists and effective segmenting of donors. Generate gift acknowledgement letters, contribution receipts, invoices, renewal letters, and pledge reminders. Work across operational teams to develop donor-facing communication materials such as one-pagers, impact and donor reports, gift agreements, newsletters, special appeals and other print and/or digital content. Conduct in-depth prospect research to identify and qualify major gift prospects, assessing their ability, philanthropic interests and capacity to support Auroras mission Use internal and external data sources and research tools to identify and prioritize new prospects. Support the planning and implementation of fundraising events by managing RSVPs, guest lists, and post-event follow-up. Update and revise all donor acknowledgement communications periodically as needed.

Other Duties (5-10%) Stay informed about trends and updates in nonprofit CRM systems and donor data privacy. Participate in team meetings and contribute to department-wide planning and strategy sessions. Perform additional tasks as requested by the Director of Development.

Qualifications:

Required 15 years of experience in nonprofit development operations, database management, or a related field. Experience with a commonly used / generally known fundraising database for data entry, queries, and reporting, ideally Raisers Edge (RE NXT preferred). Strong attention to detail, organizational, and analytical skills. Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines independently. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively across departments. Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.

Preferred Experience with donor segmentation, prospect research, or gift-processing workflows. Familiarity with email marketing platforms (e.g., Mailchimp, Constant Contact) and event registration tools. Commitment to the mission of Aurora and an interest in nonprofit fundraising.
