GKN Aerospace is seeking a safety-driven Industrial Health and Safety Specialist to lead efforts in protecting employee health and preventing workplace hazards in our aircraft window and canopy manufacturing operations. This role is critical to maintaining a safe, compliant, and proactive safety culture, especially in environments involving chemical processes. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of Cal-OSHA regulations and hands-on experience managing safety programs that reduce risk and ensure regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities: Lead the development, implementation, and enforcement of safety programs aligned with Cal-OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory standards. Manage and continuously improve site safety programs, including:

Hazardous waste handling (RCRA) Stormwater pollution prevention Confined space entry Fall protection systems Respiratory protection and fit testing

Conduct proactive risk assessments and hazard analyses for new equipment, processes, and workforce transitions. Investigate safety incidents and near misses using root cause analysis; implement corrective and preventive actions to eliminate recurrence. Deliver safety training for all employees, including onboarding, PPE use, emergency response, and job-specific safety procedures. Maintain accurate documentation for all safety programs and ensure readiness for audits and inspections. Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to ensure safe work practices and continuous safety improvements. Support environmental compliance reporting and permit renewals related to air emissions, stormwater, and hazardous materials. Promote a safety-first culture through toolbox talks, employee engagement, and active participation in safety committees. Track and report safety metrics, such as incident rates, PPE compliance, and training completion, to drive accountability and improvement.

Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or related field. 3+ years of safety experience in a manufacturing setting, preferably involving chemical processes. Strong working knowledge of Cal-OSHA and industrial safety standards. Experience managing safety programs in hazardous waste, stormwater, confined spaces, fall protection, and respiratory protection. Excellent communication, training, and documentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications: Aerospace or defense manufacturing experience. Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or similar certification. Familiarity with ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards.
