Position:
Underground General Superintendent (UGS) for Central Ohio Report to:
Area Manager
Overview: The Underground General Superintendent (UGS) is responsible for multiple underground projects. He is to work closely with the Area Manager and Safety Manager. He is directly responsible to supervise Superintendents/Foremen and their resources on the project. Primary responsibilities include: Safety (i.e.: meet or exceed OSHA Standards) Quality (i.e.: meet or exceed plan & specification requirements) Schedule (i.e.: meet or gain project schedule days) Budget (i.e.: meet or gain on estimated cost to perform work) Employee Relations (i.e.: EEO, training)
Perform all duties consistent with the Company’s core values. Maintain a positive attitude and good working relationships with customers, employees, and the public.
Responsibilities: Safety Insure all projects comply with OSHA Standards and MBC Safety Programs. Insure proper safety practices for field operations are followed. Review all Safety Incidents and report major incidents immediately to the Safety Manager & Area Manager. Insure Safety Incident Reports are completed by the projects in conjunction with the Safety Director within 24 hours of the incident. Work with the Safety Manager, Superintendents and Foremen to promote holding Site sense and Safety re-sets daily with their crews (minimum requirement) and prior to major the start of a new operation. Perform at least 1 safety audit per week.
Quality, Schedule, Budget Review and understand all project scopes, schedules, production, plans, specifications and standard drawings for the work to be performed. Build the work to meet or exceed specifications. Coordinate all project activities through the Project Managers, Superintendents and Foremen. Coordinate and direct all field personnel and equipment moves to optimize utilization of company resources in conjunction with the Equipment Manager. Insure projects care for equipment assigned to them. Report equipment maintenance issues to the Equipment Manager immediately. Miscellaneous project duties as requested by Area Manager &/or VP. Insure Superintendents and Foremen are completing all reports in an accurate and timely manner.
Employee Relations Inform employees of all current company policies regarding EEO, Affirmative Action, Sexual Harassment and ADA. Insure policies are met on the project. Report Employee complaints and violations immediately to Human Resources for action. Perform on-going training of assigned employees in all areas of the work. Communicate with local unions for manpower resource requests.
Authority: To direct the work of Superintendents, Foremen, employees, suppliers, and subcontractors assigned to all projects. To request information from Project Managers to assist in decision making. To direct the assignment of trucks, equipment and manpower necessary to optimize utilization of company resources. Equipment assignment must be coordinated through the Equipment Manager. To reprimand, terminate and replace hourly employees not performing the work. This must be properly documented. To reprimand, terminate and replace Superintendents, Foremen not performing the work. This must be reviewed with and approved by the Area/Group Manager & VP, as well as properly documented. To reprimand and replace subcontractors not performing the work. This must be reviewed with and approved by Area/Group Manager.
Annual Performance Review: An annual performance review will be held each year with Area Manager. Performance will be measured based on the criteria outlined above.
