Our client seeks a Compliance Counsel to oversee U.S. legal and regulatory compliance, track legislative changes, manage trade compliance and tariffs, and advise on risk. The role spans multiple business functions, with emphasis on import/export controls, trade regulations, industrial policy, and environmental and energy law.
Key Responsibilities:
Monitor federal and state regulatory changes; provide updates and risk analyses to leadership. Advise on U.S. import/export laws (EAR, ITAR, customs), tariffs, trade remedies, and product classifications. Develop and maintain compliance policies aligned with global standards. Deliver training on anti-corruption, sanctions, trade compliance, and supply chain transparency. Conduct audits, investigations, and advise on antitrust/competition matters. Collaborate with internal teams, external counsel, and global colleagues to resolve issues and align practices.
Qualifications:
JD from an accredited law school; active U.S. state bar (eligible under Michigan in-house counsel rules). 5+ years’ legal experience, including 3+ in compliance, trade, or regulatory law. Strong knowledge of U.S. trade laws, customs, and industrial policy (IRA, CHIPS Act, Buy American Act). Manufacturing, energy, or automotive sector experience preferred. Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills; able to work independently and in teams.
