Heavy Civil Construction / Site Development / Earthwork About the Role: We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented
Project Engineer
with expertise in
earthwork, dirt, and grading operations
to support our field and office teams on grading-focused construction projects throughout the Phoenix metro area. The ideal candidate will bring a deep understanding of mass excavation, fine grading, GPS-guided equipment, and the coordination of field production activities. Key Responsibilities: Project Coordination & Documentation Support the Project Manager and Superintendent with daily coordination, subcontractor oversight, and schedule tracking. Manage Requests for Information (RFIs), submittals, shop drawings, and material tracking. Ensure all grading and excavation activities align with engineered plans and specifications. Field Support Work closely with surveyors and field crews to ensure cut/fill operations are accurate and timely. Assist in setting up and maintaining GPS models for machine control systems (Trimble or equivalent). Monitor daily production rates, equipment usage, and progress relative to project goals. Technical Support Review grading plans, geotechnical reports, and stormwater management requirements. Coordinate with civil engineers and design teams to resolve grading conflicts or discrepancies. Aid in value engineering exercises and earthwork quantity analysis. Cost Management & Reporting Track quantities for pay applications, cost reports, and change order documentation. Support bid takeoffs and estimation of earthwork and site grading scopes for new projects. Qualifications: Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred. Experience: 2–5 years of experience in heavy civil construction, with direct experience in dirt/grading operations. Familiarity with earthmoving equipment and GPS machine control systems is a must. Experience with Bluebeam, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and construction management software (e.g., Procore, HCSS) is highly desirable. Skills: Strong technical knowledge of grading techniques, soil types, compaction, and drainage. Excellent communication and coordination skills with both field and office teams. Ability to read and interpret civil site plans, cut/fill maps, and grading specifications.
