Reports to Dean, School of Nursing Job Description Summary/objective Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO) offers students a Bachelor in Science in Nursing (B.S.N) degree program to prepare a generalist in nursing with leadership skills, basic research abilities, and a holistic health approach to professional nursing with a focus on the community. The Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree is the foundation for professional nursing practice. The Assistant Professor / Simulation Lab Coordinator / Clinical Placement Coordinator is a multifaceted faculty position that includes teaching undergraduate nursing students, overseeing the operation of the simulation and high-fidelity labs, and coordinating clinical placement experiences for pre-licensure BSN students. This position supports the School of Nursing’s mission to deliver high-quality, experiential nursing education and foster academic and professional excellence.

The ideal candidate will have experience in simulation-based learning, possess strong organizational and interpersonal skills, and demonstrate a commitment to student-centered, evidence-based teaching.

The Lab Coordinator, ensures the effective and efficient operation of the lab, assesses and provides for meeting programmatic, and student needs, and oversees the operation of high, medium, and low fidelity technology to ensure safe and effective use of the simulation equipment. This individual is expected to maintain the day-to-day operations of the laboratory while providing strong customer service that is professional, accurate, and timely. The Nursing Skills Laboratory Simulation Coordinator reports to the Dean of Nursing.

During the academic year, the Assistant Professor / Simulation Lab Coordinator / Clinical Placement Coordinator is responsible for: Simulation Lab Coordination Assists program directors, faculty, and students in the lab setting with integration of simulation into the curriculum. Supervises and evaluates students’ progress in meeting designated program student learning outcomes (PSLOs) and course student learning outcomes (CSLOs) and reports progress to course faculty and program directors through end of term reports. Coordinates and schedules use of labs for all functions, including: regular classes, special class sections, open lab, advanced clinical skills, and clinical skills evaluation. Collaborates with the Dean of Nursing to establish, review, and research policies, standard practices, and procedures related to the skills and simulation lab with a focus on continuous quality improvement. Collaborates with course faculty in planning, designing, organizing, and delivering lab and simulation activities to meet the needs and schedule of the course. Collaborates with the nursing faculty to coordinate the complementary blending of lab practice, simulation, virtual simulation and the clinical experience. Researches, develops, updates, collaborates, and refines lab and clinical scenarios for the nursing programs based on student and faculty needs and reflective of current practice standards. Ensures safety and maintains OSHA standards within the simulation lab; to include appropriate disposal of hazardous waste and sharps Keeps current with safety standards and informs the Dean of Nursing of changes in standards.

Teaching Responsibilities (Assistant Professor) Prepares and delivers instruction in assigned nursing courses (e.g., classroom, lab, and clinical), setting high academic standards. Develops course materials and assessments aligned with course and program outcomes. Evaluates student performance using various formative and summative measures. Provides timely feedback and academic support to students to ensure their success. Participates in curriculum development and academic advising. Submits all required documentation including syllabi, grades, attendance records, and evaluations Serves on departmental or university committees as assigned. Required education and experience Doctoral degree in Nursing (DNP or PhD) Master of Science in Nursing is required if the doctoral degree is not in nursing. Licensed and unencumbered registered nurse in the state of Louisiana. Minimum of five (5) years clinical and/or teaching experience in Nursing. Computer and technology skills are required. Prior experience teaching in an undergraduate nursing program Preferred education and experience Certification in healthcare simulation (e.g., CHSE) Experience working with high-fidelity manikins and simulation platforms Familiarity with clinical tracking software (e.g., Typhon, CastleBranch, EXXAT) Experience coordinating student clinical placement and managing preceptor relationships Additional eligibility requirements Availability for occasional evening/weekend events for simulation sessions or clinical coordination meetings Availability for occasional evening/weekend events for simulation sessions or clinical coordination meetings Southern University of New Orleans (SUNO) is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
