Job Description: The successful intern candidate will be a key member of the OpenAg R&D global team contributing to ongoing research in entomology program. The position will be based at UPL’s OpenAg Research and Development Center in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, and reporting to the Global Research Lead for Entomology.
Responsibilities Work with scientists in the Plant, Seed and Soil Entomology team and support them in conducting research. Perform general laboratory operations, including day-to-day activities, research supplies inventory, equipment maintenance, planting, maintaining, and growing plants, and routine care and maintenance of insect colonies. Assist with setting up, conducting, and completing experiments. Possess good observational skills and be detail oriented. Have demonstrated skill in organizing their time and managing multiple concurrent activities. Be excited to tackle new challenges and develop new skills. Be flexible and open to new tasks and techniques beyond those mentioned above.
Minimum Qualifications: B.S. degree or working towards a B.S. (junior or senior year) with at least one year of relevant experience preferred in biological sciences which can include, entomology, general agriculture, agronomy, plant science, or related discipline(s) from an accredited college or university. Experience in plant culture and conducting experiments in lab and greenhouse with plants. Basic understanding of applied statistics to experimental data. Proficiency in Microsoft Office environment and willingness to learn company-specific software. Ability to work in greenhouse conditions and lift 50 lbs. Ability to work with biological, microbial, and chemical insect management technologies of unknown toxicity while following appropriate safety procedures. Ability to be trained in safe laboratory and greenhouse operating procedures and exercise them. Ability to understand and manage information that can be company confidential. Can work in the US without needing employer work sponsorship
