The Opportunity: A global energy IPP/super major is looking for a proactive
Legal Counsel
to join its growing US energy trading team in San Francisco, CA. Reporting to the Head of Legal - USA, you’ll be the second legal hire on the ground, supporting commercial teams (Portfolio Management, Origination, Trading) and internal stakeholders (Risk, Compliance, Credit, Treasury) on a wide range of commercial, regulatory, and corporate legal matters.
Main Responsibilities: Draft, review, and negotiate complex commercial agreements (PPAs, ISDAs, EEIs, NDAs, ISO contracts, futures, broker agreements, renewable certificates, carbon credits, guarantees, letters of credit, and service contracts). Provide practical legal advice on regulatory compliance and changes impacting the energy sector. Identify and manage legal and contractual risks. Conduct legal research and manage outside counsel relationships and legal administration.
Experience required: JD and admission to the California Bar (or eligibility to practice in CA). At least 2 years of transactional experience in-house or at a law firm. Solid knowledge of energy law and derivatives preferred. Strong drafting, negotiation, and communication skills.
