nTrinity Health Livonia is a beautiful full-service, 304-bed acute care hospital, located in Livonia, MI, that provides comprehensive care, including a 24-hour emergency department, general medicine, inpatient and outpatient surgery, physical medicine and rehabilitation, intensive care unit, cancer, cardiology, geriatrics and birthing and women's health. nSUMMARY:
nTransfer and transport patients safely and effectively from Patient Care Areas to and from diagnostic/ testing areas including expired patients to the morgue.
nESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE:
nTransport stable, non-monitored patients from Patient Care Areas to and from diagnostic/ testing areas (such as CT, X-ray, Angio, Hemo) and to inpatient units for admissions.
nAble to effectively communicate with the patient, family, visitors, and the direct care providers.
nTransporters are to directly speak with the RN or the Healthcare Provider prior to a transport and when the patient returns to the unit.
nTransporters are to assist the patient with his/her restroom needs as necessary.
nAble to safely transfer patients using a transfer device such as a patient sling, slide board, or other hospital approved transfer devices.
nCleans transport equipment between each patient use.
nTransport, locate, and redistribute equipment such as stretchers, wheelchairs, Airpals, Stryker Glides, oxygen, and other necessary equipment to perform transports. Replaces oxygen tanks as needed (less than 500 psi).
nProvides directions to families and/or visitors
nMaintains current BLS certification.
nAttends and participates in departmental meetings and continuing educational activities.
nProvides quality patient care by considering the age specific, development and cultural needs through competent clinical practice.
nDemonstrates unit/area competencies.
nMaintains good rapport and cooperative relationships.
nApproaches conflict in a constructive manner.
nHelps to identify problems, offer solutions, and participate in their resolution. Maintains the confidentiality of information acquired pertaining to patient, physicians, colleagues, and visitors to St. Joseph Mercy Health.
nDiscusses patient and hospital information only among appropriate personnel in appropriately private places.
nBehaves in accordance with the Code of Conduct, Service Excellence Standards, and the Mission, Vision and Values of SJMH.
nAssumes responsibility for performance of job duties in the safest possible manner, to assure personal safety and that of coworkers, and to report all preventable hazards and unsafe practices immediately to management.
nREQUIREMENTS:
nEducation: High school diploma or GED recommended.
nExperience: Prior Healthcare experience is not required.
nCertification/Licensure: Basic cardiac life support required.
nREQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES
nExcellent customer service skills Able to effectively organize work assignments Must be a self-starter - transporters work without the direction of a dispatcher and have the autonomy to select his/her next transports. Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate with co-workers and a variety of Health System personnel when transporting a patient. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Intensive walking between 12 to 15 miles in an 8-hour shift. Ability to walk or stand for hours at a time. Ability to push wheelchair or stretcher weighing up to 700 lbs.
