JOB PURPOSE:

The Health and Safety Specialist is responsible for supporting, developing, and implementing safety programs across our California and Illinois manufacturing facilities. This role ensures compliance with OSHA, Cal/OSHA, and other regulatory standards while promoting a proactive safety culture. The Specialist performs risk assessments, leads incident investigations using structured root cause analysis (including the 5 Whys method), and monitors key performance indicators (KPIs) to drive continuous improvement.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Oversee and support health and safety programs for both IL and CA facilities.
  • Conduct thorough risk assessments and assist departments in developing corrective action plans.
  • Lead incident and near-miss investigations using root cause analysis tools, including the 5 Whys.
  • Define, track, and report safety KPIs such as incident rates, training compliance, audit scores, and corrective action closure rates.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, Cal/OSHA, and other federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Maintain and manage safety records, including OSHA 300 logs, inspection reports, training documents, and incident reports.
  • Deliver safety training for employees, including new hire and job-specific safety programs.
  • Participate in and support safety committee meetings, audits, and emergency response planning activities.
  • Work cross-functionally with production, maintenance, HR, and management to build a safety-first culture.
  • Support ergonomic assessments and improvement recommendations.
  • Ensure both sites are audit-ready and respond to agency inquiries or inspections.
  • Other tasks assigned by my manager.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: Bachelors degree in occupational health & safety or related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years in a safety or EHS role, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Certifications: OSHA 30-hour required; CSF or equivalent safety credentials.
  • Travel: Must be able to travel up to 40% between California and Illinois facilities.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus.
