The objective of this role is to provide professional legal services for the Law Offices of the Public Defender, representing juvenile and adult indigent clients in litigation, appeals, counsel, research, and analysis. Pay Information

Public Defender 2 (PD2)

Handle misdemeanors and assist in juvenile and youthful offender cases. Support higher-level attorneys with complex cases. Work under supervision, conduct plea bargaining, and attend professional development activities. Public Defender 3 (PD3)

Represent clients in misdemeanors, juvenile cases, and low to medium-level felonies with limited supervision. Provide guidance to lower-level attorneys and law clerks. Engage in plea bargaining, professional development, and legal documentation. Public Defender 4 (PD4)

Handle felony cases, including complex felonies and appellate caseloads. Provide guidance to lower-level attorneys, work independently, and resolve complex issues. Attend professional development and perform legal duties independently. Please note this description is not exhaustive and duties may change. Employees may perform duties across different levels without additional compensation. Qualifications

PD2: Must hold a license issued by the New Mexico Supreme Court or be eligible for a limited license. PD3: Same as PD2, plus one year of practicing attorney experience. PD4: Same as PD2, plus four years of practicing attorney experience. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license. Additional Information
