*Job Purpose*
Maintain, diagnose, adjust, repair, or overhaul fleet vehicles.
*Tasks*
* Adjust and reline brakes, align wheels, tighten bolts and screws, and reassemble equipment. * Align front ends and suspension systems. * Attach test instruments to equipment and read dials and gauges to diagnose malfunctions. * Diagnose and repair vehicle heating and cooling systems. * Disassemble and overhaul internal combustion engines, pumps, generators, transmissions, clutches, and differential units. * Examine and adjust protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices. * Inspect and verify dimensions and clearances of parts to ensure conformance to factory specifications. * Inspect brake systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings, and other important parts to ensure that they are in proper operating condition. * Inspect, repair, and maintain automotive and mechanical equipment and machinery, such as pumps and compressors. * Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using test instruments such as handheld computers, motor analyzers, chassis charts, or pressure gauges. * Inspecting, maintaining, and repairing auxiliary systems related to diesel engines, such as air brakes, hydraulic systems, and electrical systems. * Performing welding and fabrication tasks to repair or modify components or structures, such as engine mounts, brackets, or exhaust systems. * Install or repair accessories. * Operate valve-grinding machines to grind and reset valves. * Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment and machinery. * Raise trucks and heavy parts or equipment using hydraulic jacks or hoists. * Rebuild gas or diesel engines. * Recondition and replace parts, pistons, bearings, gears, and valves. * Repair or adjust seats, doors, or windows. * Rewire ignition systems, lights, and instrument panels. * Specialize in repairing and maintaining parts of the engine, such as fuel injection systems. * Test drive trucks to diagnose malfunctions or to ensure that they are working properly. * Adhering to safety protocols and ensuring compliance with environmental and regulatory standards while performing repair and maintenance tasks. * Maintaining accurate records of repairs, services performed, and parts used. May also order necessary parts and supplies. * Assisting and providing guidance to junior mechanics or apprentices in developing their skills and knowledge in diesel engine maintenance and repair. * Equipment and Tool Maintenance: Ensuring that all tools, equipment, and machinery are properly maintained, calibrated, and in good working condition.
*Work Requirements* This position requires the employee:
* To be able to stand for long hours. * To stoop and bend with ease * To be able to lift 50 pounds unassisted * To work in an environment that often smells musty, putrid, or rancid * To potentially work in an environment that has seasonally high heat or low temperatures due to being outdoors * To potentially work in an environment that has wet or humid conditions due to be being outdoors * To be exposed to moving parts and/or fumes. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high. * Clean Driving Record * Must be able to pass Drug Screen
