General Summary:

Sound Transit's Enterprise Architecture (EA) division is a strategy and planning function within the agency. EA serves to help the Sound Transit business units develop and understand their business needs and how to achieve them, especially as it relates to technology. Demand has surpassed EA capacity, necessitating a need to more broadly advise subsequent projects without having to put "hands on". To support this goal, EA is formalizing and standardizing the technology guidance that is repeatedly issued and packaging these items into a more formal document to make it more of a self-service foundational document for IT projects, as well as making it more accessible to groups outside of IT. Sound Transit is looking for an experienced enterprise or solutions architect to apply their industry experience to develop these individual "guidance items", with the assistance the EA team, from the idea kernel into a structured, consumable product. This engagement has the goal of: • Releasing an initial publication of the guidance items in 2023, containing at least 20 guidance items, • Producing quarterly updates to it in 2024.

Essential Functions:

This role will: • Prepare architectural (technical) requirements document(s) for publication to both a technical and nontechnical audience for an initial publication by end of 2023. • With principal input from the EA team: o Develop the publication template, including the structured content of the individual guidance items, o Identify good industry practices not already in the list of guidance items, o Prioritize list of guidance items. • Write guidance items, in accordance with the prioritized list: o Work closely with Architecture SMEs to capture ST specific needs and details relating to the guidance items, o Develop guidance items, with specific attention to the Client features of ST's technology landscape. • Working under the direction of an EA, with support from the EA team: o Transform the guidance items into the publication template, o Create supporting documentation and images, o Lead review and feedback sessions with relevant parties, o Update publication, incorporating the feedback, and present for approval. • Publish the guidance, as approved, considering the following: o Generation to a PDF format suitable for attachment to RFPs, o Hosting of the publication on an internal web site (SharePoint) for discoverability and reference by staff, o Working with peer groups for inclusion into or reference from their design manuals, as directed by EA, o Support EA for any meetings or roadshows needed to communicate and advertise the presence of this publication.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education & Experience: At least 5 years' experience as Solutions Architect or Enterprise Architect. Experience in working collaboratively with both business and technical stakeholders to rapidly understand new technology environments, and the business requirements and processes that overlap with them. Experience working in public agency environment is preferred.

Required Licenses or Certifications:

Required Knowledge of:

Architectural modeling (TOGAF, Archimate, or equivalent)

Required Skill in: Writing presentations to technical and non-technical audiences Architecting and modeling enterprise systems.
