Summary/Objective:
Reporting to the Financial Controller, this position plays a critical role in managing one important aspect of the day-to-day financial operations of the business: tax, including both USA and Canadian corporate and sale tax filling, audit and other external tax compliance requirements etc. The position requires an individual who has a deep and broad knowledge on the US and Canadian tax framework, and experience working with internal finance team and external professional firms as well as government agencies and other stakeholders. This position will be responsible for the tax compliance and planning. It requires both a business/operation orientation and a strategic mind-set.
Essential functions:
- Work with the internal accounting team and external advisers on tax returns including US/Canada federal, state income tax, sales tax, local business tax etc.
- Maintain a complete tax filling ledger that summaries for federal, state/provincial requirements to ensure all tax returns are filled in a timely manner.
- Review assessments and correspond with tax authorities on various issues. Lead and coordinate the internal and external tax audit review process.
- Collaborate responses to tax audits by the various federal, provincial/state tax authorities, as applicable.
- Advise on relevant US/Canada cross border issues and intercompany transactions. Develop and implement tax planning strategies.
- Analyze the difference between financial income and taxable income, and impact of the financial/operational provisions and carry over items.
- Provide guidance of compliance with tax regulations in US and Canada.
- Review transactional tax application in daily operation and business transactions. Review and/or prepare all government remittances.
- Assist with ad hoc strategic and operational financial projects.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree or above, majoring in Finance or Accounting;
- 5+ years of professional tax experience, with deep and broad knowledge of the US and Canadian tax frameworks;
- Experience in collaborating with internal finance, external firms, government agencies and other stakeholders;
- Strong communication and analytical skills.
