Summary
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval, award amount (up to $200,000), and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or licensing requirements may be tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Current VA-employed physicians who met the requirements at their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements.
Basic Requirements:
- U.S. Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited, per VA Policy.
- Education: Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree from an accredited school.
- License: Current, full, unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the U.S. or its territories.
- Residency Training: Completion of approved residency training leading to eligibility for board certification.

- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
Preferred Experience:
Board certification or eligibility in ABPN, experience with Buprenorphine and Methadone treatments, Addiction Psychiatry fellowship, etc.
Physical Requirements:
Includes lifting, reaching, walking, vision, hearing, and emotional stability requirements.
Duties
This is an open continuous announcement until September 2, 2025, with a first cut-off date of August 15, 2025. It offers opportunities in outpatient psychiatry, addiction treatment, and inpatient coverage at the VA North Texas Health Care System in Dallas, TX. The work schedule is Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, with light on-call duties.
