Summary
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) - a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval includes an award amount of up to $200,000 and an eligibility period of one to five years, determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or licensing requirements may be tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Current VA-employed physicians who met the requirements at their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements.
- United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens are unavailable, in accordance with VA Policy.
- Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree from an approved school.
- Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the U.S.
- Residency Training: Completion of an approved residency program leading to eligibility for board certification, including ACGME, AOA, or other approved programs.
- Residents enrolled in ACGME/AOA programs are eligible as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs) but must be fully licensed and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee basis.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Board certified or eligible in internal medicine or family medicine.
- Physical requirements include lifting 15-44 pounds, reaching above shoulder, use of fingers and both hands, walking and standing for 3-5 hours, kneeling, rapid mental and muscular coordination, depth perception, color discrimination, and hearing ability. A physical exam and drug testing are required prior to appointment.
Duties
The incumbent will provide assessment and care for patients with various medical conditions, utilizing face-to-face, telehealth, or video visits. Responsibilities include ordering diagnostics, consultations, medications, and therapies, meeting preventive health needs, and completing VA documentation promptly. The primary site of care will be within the VA Northern California Health Care System, with possible travel to other centers or clinics. Major duties include performing history and physical exams, diagnosis, consultation, treatment, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, and supervising trainees. The position may also support the Call Center and perform routine women's health services, wound care, and other procedures as needed.
