Summary
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) - a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval, award amount (up to $200,000), and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or licensing requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. VA physicians previously employed under the old qualification standards at initial appointment are deemed to meet basic requirements.
Basic Requirements:
- United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited, in accordance with VA Policy.
- Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree from an approved medical school.
- Current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the U.S. or its territories.
- Residency training: Completion of an approved residency program leading to eligibility for board certification. Approved residencies include those accredited by ACGME, AOA, or equivalent programs with verified practice in the U.S.
- Residents enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited programs are eligible to be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs), who must be fully licensed and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee basis.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Physical requirements include light lifting and carrying, pulling, pushing, reaching, use of fingers, walking, standing, bending, and the ability for rapid coordination. Near vision must be correctable to Jaeger 1-4, and hearing aids are permitted.
Duties
- Provide direct patient care and clinical guidance to mid-level providers in Urology.
- Participate in service improvement initiatives and programmatic activities within the facility.
- Evaluate patients, document progress, and coordinate care with other providers and facilities.
- Ensure barriers for Veterans and staff are minimized to promote a positive work environment.
- Foster positive relationships with staff, peers, and Veterans.
- Perform consultations and provide clinical care, education, and research as appropriate.
- Work schedule: 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, Monday - Friday.
