Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within four months of appointment. The award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services after review of the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to reapply.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or licensing may be referred and tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Current VA-employed physicians who met the initial appointment standards are deemed to have met the basic requirements.

Basic Requirements:

  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may be appointed only when qualified citizens cannot be recruited, per VA Policy.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or equivalent from an approved medical school.
  • Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the U.S., its territories, or D.C.
  • Residency Training: Completion of an approved residency in a core specialty leading to board eligibility. Residency must be approved by the VA or equivalent recognized program.
  • Residents enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited programs are eligible as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs), who must be fully licensed and may be appointed on an intermittent or fee basis. PRPs are not independent practitioners and do not have privileges.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Board Certification in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine.
  • Physical and mental capacity to perform essential functions safely.
  • Visual acuity, keen hearing, clear speech, manual dexterity, and ability to lift 15-44 pounds.

Duties

  • Perform specialized treatment, comprehensive assessments, and diagnosis of complex physical and mental illnesses in outpatient settings.
  • Maintain board certification and CME requirements; participate in training as needed.
  • Provide patient-family centered care with respectful communication across diverse backgrounds.
  • Participate in peer reviews and committees, demonstrating professionalism and cooperation.
  • Work effectively under stress, adjust to patient needs, and manage challenging behaviors.
  • Ensure timely, accurate electronic medical record documentation.
  • Travel to clinics in Sheridan, Casper, Gillette, and Cody, WY, for outpatient care coverage.
  • Provide cross-cover for other providers as needed in Wyoming VA clinics.
  • Manage comprehensive medical care for a panel of Veterans enrolled in Primary Care.
  • Maintain licensures and certifications required for credentials and privileges.
