Data Analyst & Accounting Special Projects Specialist
role. This role is designed for someone who thrives on transforming data into insights and is also capable of supporting special initiatives within the Accounting/Finance team. This is a
70% data-focused role , with
30% of responsibilities involving accounting-related projects —ideal for someone who is data-savvy, detail-oriented, and interested in bridging analytics with financial operations.
Key Responsibilities: Primary – Data Analysis & Reporting (70%) Analyze data extracted from core banking systems (e.g., Fiserv, Jack Henry) to support business intelligence initiatives. Utilize a wide range of MS Excel features, including formulas (sumif, vlookup, index/match, etc.), pivot tables, macros, and potentially even VBA programming, to streamline tasks and create efficient spreadsheet solutions. Collaborate with business units (lending, operations, finance) to understand data needs and deliver actionable insights. Improve automation, streamline data workflows, and assist in digital transformation initiatives. Identify and correct data inconsistencies, supporting the bank’s data governance efforts. Assist with preparation of regulatory, board, and executive-level reporting. Develop and maintain dashboards, reports, and data visualizations to track KPIs and business performance across departments. Secondary – Accounting & Financial Projects (30%) Participate in budgeting, cost analysis, and finance-led projects that benefit from data-driven insights. Assist with audit support, documentation of financial processes, and implementation of new tools or systems. Help bridge the gap between accounting and data analytics for special projects or compliance needs. Support month-end close activities including reconciliations and reporting support. Requirements: Education: Bachelor’s degree in Data Analytics, Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related field. Certifications such as Microsoft Certified Data Analyst or CPA are a plus. Experience: 2+ years of experience in data analytics, or financial data reporting—ideally in a banking or financial services environment. Familiarity with accounting principles and exposure to financial operations or reporting. Understanding commercial banking operations is a plus. Technical Skills: Strong to expert level skills in Microsoft Office (primarily Excel) required. Experience with FiServ core operating system is a plus. Ability to deal effectively and tactfully with personnel of other departments and branches. The ability to operate a variety of automated and standard office equipment
