Position Overview
A full-service critical access hospital on North Carolina's Outer Banks is seeking an experienced Physician Assistant to support their hospitalist service for a short-term locum assignment. This role is focused on admissions, consults, and co-management of ED holds and admitted patients during evening shifts. - HPA Healthcare is a Joint Commission-certified agency
- 8-hour evening shifts (2:00 PM - 10:00 PM), Monday-Friday
- Support a well-established hospitalist team (2 MDs, 4 APPs)
- Average inpatient census: 17-21; APPs manage 8-10 patients/day
- Typical admissions during shift: 5-7
- No ICU or critical care responsibilities
- Respond to inpatient codes (not ED)
- Consults only on ED holds; no ED backup duties required
- Orientation scheduled the day before first shift
- Pre-paid travel and lodging included
- Medical malpractice coverage provided by HPA Healthcare
- Work and live steps from the beach in one of the nation's most scenic coastal areas
- Active North Carolina PA license required
- Current DEA registration
- BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA-approved)
- Minimum 2 years of hospitalist or inpatient experience preferred
- Must be able to function independently with strong clinical judgment
