Job Description Summary

The General Manager (GM) is the onsite leader of the hotel and represents the company with all guests, clients, associates, and owners. The GM is responsible for delivering results that contribute to the hotel's success by focusing on revenue, cost control, guest satisfaction, staff engagement, and service quality. The GM works directly with Sonesta’s Regional Director of Operations and partners with regional sales, revenue management, marketing, and support functions such as accounting, facilities, HR, IT, and procurement.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Deliver Sonesta Service standards in all guest and client interactions, managing guest amenities, food and beverage outlets, and hotel maintenance.
  • Develop and execute the hotel's sales strategy in collaboration with the Regional Director of Sales, managing the sales team and using the SalesPRO system.
  • Maximize revenue through proper rate setting and collaboration with the Revenue Manager, using systems like Opera, SynXis, and iDeas.
  • Manage market segments and distribution channels to optimize profitability.
  • Oversee brand positioning, marketing programs, and guest recognition initiatives.
  • Supervise front office, housekeeping, food and beverage, and maintenance operations.
  • Lead budget development, financial management, and reporting in partnership with the Finance Department.
  • Ensure proper management of physical assets, facilities, and safety standards.
  • Manage human resources, including recruiting, onboarding, training, and performance management, using Workday.
  • Oversee technology and procurement processes to ensure efficiency and compliance.
  • Implement guest service recovery procedures and address guest complaints promptly.
  • Enforce hotel policies and standards, act as Manager on Duty, and ensure legal compliance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Hotel Administration, Business, or related field preferred.
  • At least three years as a General Manager or similar role in extended stay hotels preferred.
  • Fluent in English; additional languages beneficial.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, Opera, and other hotel systems preferred.
  • Willingness to travel; valid driver’s license required.
  • Physical ability to perform job duties, including lifting up to 50 pounds and standing for extended periods.

Additional Information

Pay Range: $83,790 - $93,100 annually, with benefits including health insurance, 401(k), paid leave, hotel discounts, and more.
